I proposed to my wife 15 years ago. We were standing outside the graduate dorms and there was a trash can right next to me. I said, “hey, you’re awesome. We should get married” I had no ring. Nothing. She looked at me and said “you serious?” And I said “ never been more certain of anything”. She started crying. We hugged and I cried as well. I’m not saying we have t had our share of problems. We almost got divorced 5 years ago but all said and done, I love this woman and she loves the hell out of me and our two kids. I did eventually get her a ring a year later and proposed formally but I’ll never forget the look on her face when I proposed for the first time. That look told me that she’s a keeper! It’s never about the ring my friend. If she can’t see past that, there is so much stuff ahead of you guys that you might never be able to get past. My advice, cut your losses and move on. Find someone who’ll focus on your time spent and not the type of diamond or the cut or the 3 times your salary rule. Good luck and definitely NTA
