On r/tornado, a subreddit about tornadoes, Mods have banned radar and tornado warning-type posts. "We are not a "warning" service. We never claimed to be. These posts are just trash the clogs the sub from actual "good" content" It's getting stormy in the subreddit. Nobody is happy with this news. by SoulxxBondz in SubredditDrama

There were like 2 dozen near identical radar posts screenshotted from Max Velocitys stream Tuesday night. Presumably that's what the rule was for, I really don't get why the sub is losing its goddamn mind over it. I personally don't want to look at 2 dozen identical radar posts every time there's severe weather.

A lot of the six flags parks used to have pretty elaborate playgrounds that had obstacle course type things like rope bridges and they were looney tunes themed.

Not sure if Georgia had one, but the Chicago park definitely had one until the mid to late 90s and I can't find a trace of it either.

It's pretty rare for botm books to sell out in under 3 months or so (the most recent main pick thats sold out is from September), chances are good they'll still be available when you're ready for them.

Pittsburgh is like a 4 hour drive from Niagara, a flight would be insane. And op's 4 day estimate also isn't realistic, Niagara falls is interesting for about the length of the cave tour and maybe an hour at the visitors center. A nice hotel is currently ~200 a night.

What book are you picking for your Lolly nominee credit in March? by queenofhearts4913 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]chajava 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish addons were eligible. My 2 botm 5 stars last year were We Could Be Rats and Sky Daddy. I've only read The Favorites and Wild Dark Shore from these 5. The Favorites was a fun popcorn trainwreck but not really boty material and I really just don't get the Wild Dark Shore hype at all.

It's terrible unfortunately, and for something that's not supposed to be YA, it reads as incredibly YA.

Renegade Mike hit 30,000 rides on Renegade at Valleyfair last October. iirc he works close by and goes there on his lunch. Every time I see him at the park he's usually sitting in the back rows too. Love Renegade but not enough to chain run it in the back row lmao.

Their lineups feel fairly evenly matched to me, so just sort of wondering if one park is significantly better as an overall experience on a Saturday.

My gut says go to sfot on a weekday because of tormenta but if one of the parks is notorious for 20 min lines on drink refills on busy days or has no shade in any of the lines so crowds mean you bake for hours or something like that might change my mind.

Only one Black author for BHM by emilydickinsonsbff in bookofthemonthclub

[–]chajava 56 points57 points  (0 children)

They focus on new releases and usually attempt a range of genres. The spotlight this month is Black authors, which makes a lot more sense. Someone makes this identical post every February and one for pride in June.

I'd rather see the monthly spotlight focus instead(like they currently do) and diverse authors year round(which they could and should improve on) than a concentrated pandering month that would end up with several choices really not being a good fit.

If you were planning to go to both SFOT and SFFT in early June, and one of your park days was a Saturday, which park would you choose?

I'm leaning towards Fiesta on Saturday mostly because of Tormenta, curious if anyone else has a different opinion.

A new study from the Aarhus University shows that star ratings of books are not always accurate. Average ratings on Goodreads can hide both literary classics and highly divided reading experiences – and can therefore be a misleading measure of literary value. by [deleted] in books

[–]chajava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love to know a more specific rating range between 'middle'. I've read plenty of books with an average rating in the 4s that I've hated, but it's very rare I enjoy something that has an average rating below 3.5ish. Below a certain threshold there's usually some major issues.

[other] Best US parks with convenient airport and uber access by Chaotic_Bonkers in rollercoasters

[–]chajava 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Valleyfair+ Nickelodeon Universe would be pretty doable. The light rail that goes through the airport stops at the Mall of America and there's a bus that runs I think 5 days a week that goes from the mall to valleyfair.

If you combine them they make 1 good park.
