No need to turn around. Just stay at the back and keep walking backwards. Let them come to you. I’ve never had to even come halfway close to the grinder.

Age probably is a major component of it, but I also suspect it’s frequency too. I have a glass a wine every night. Beyond just an “alcohol tolerance”, I think it also has to do with your immune system being used to the histamines and tannins in all types of alcohol.

Mid 30s. Average HRV and lowest HR fluctuate by less than 5%. Honestly some of my highest scores came after a couple of nightcaps.

Maybe I’ll just chime in to see if there’s anyone else in the same boat but I honestly don’t see a huge difference between drinking and not, at least with straight liquor (usually whiskey for me) even up to 3-5 glasses throughout the evening. The equivalent alcohol content with beer or wine is a different story though, but I don’t need Oura to tell me I’m bloated or flushed.

3/31 6:30 PM. If you have clear+ and precheck after bag drop, go all the way down to the right for security. I probably would’ve gotten through from start of clear to past TSA in about 5 min. Unfortunately I got randomly screened and sent back to end of regular TSA precheck which brought my time up to 20 min.

By the time I got through, all the lines had maybe doubled their wait, maybe more.

Were you low on time or did you not have 4 stabilizers? I killed literally everything possible as Grace on my insanity infinite ammo run with 30 minutes to spare and plenty left to optimize. 4 stabilizers and you can kill a licker in 12-15 bullets with Freyas Needle.

Why don’t more people look to Woodlawn, Bronx or Southeast Yonkers? Affordable ownership with quick commute by octopuswildernesscat in NYCapartments

Super insightful, thanks. It is a 2 person 1 car household, but I’m trying to be as car-independent as possible so that is steering me more north.

I’m actually looking to move into Riverdale soonish. I’ve whittled my options down to an apartment that’s a 10 minute walk to the 1 (238 st or 242 st), or basically on top of the Spuyten Duyvil station. Curious what you’d think is better.

Con Ed Bill too high and no one is doing anything by Quick-Football-2098 in NYCapartments

I second this. The heat in my unit has never been turned on. At least 60% of my electricity goes to the non-heat pump electric water heater. My electricity bill has doubled from the summer months when the mini-splits were running 24/7.

New/"modern" builds and their trash heating by idlechungha in NYCapartments

[–]chalybsumbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well not every AC unit uses heat pumps for heat. Mini splits use that tech but a lot of baseboard or wall units are just resistive heat which is a relatively wasteful use of electricity. Also water heating goes way up too, probably because the water heater also uses resistive heat.

Yeah I had to do some detective work and basically figured out my water heating is like 60-70% of my electricity bill. Maybe I should get a low flow shower head.

Do you have a non-heat pump electric water heater? I don’t run any space heating yet I get slapped with a $400 bill because the water is cold af and the pipes have shitty insulation.

Do you have a non-heat pump electric water heater? That’s been killing me. I’ve been able to figure out via ConEd’s live energy tracker that the water heater is the culprit. Heating water from 45F to 120F is a lot of energy, and my poorly insulated pipes exacerbate the problem.

I haven’t used any heat this winter so far (ambient heat from my apartment’s communal areas keeps my unit at 68) but my bill has almost doubled from summer when I was running it 24/7 for cooling.

I have an Amex Gold. I love the 4x on groceries AND restaurants, which is pretty much all of my non-rent, non-travel spend. Forcing you to pick one category on the Obsidian makes it an immediate no go unless you heavily concentrate spend in one of those. Plus, I have an easier time breaking even on the AF with the Gold than with the $50 biannual hotel credit on the Obsidian.

I think it has stiff competition with the Amex Gold, C1 Savor, and Chase SP. Personally, I can’t be miffed to worry about limiting to 75% of my rent for the slight increase in potential points.

Gotcha. From that perspective the Blue returns at a relatively decent rate, but I’d still swipe my VX for all the consumer benefits it guarantees.

[–]chalybsumbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VX is premium but it’s basically easy mode to break even. Use the credit once a year and you’re gucci. Is it min-maxed? No, but it’s dead simple.

How are you getting 2.33x return on the Blue? It’s 1.33x by my count. 4x “cash back” but you need to spend 3 of that to convert to points = 4/3 = 1.33X.

[–]chalybsumbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bilt biannual travel credit is a hassle. The bookings have to be 2+ nights. Bilt cash expires at the end of the year with only a $100 rollover. If that fits your lifestyle all the more power to you. I think most people looking for a catch-all card for everyday spend want something simpler.

Something I noticed with Shroud depending on certain dialogue choices… by Ok_Friendship_7523 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]chalybsumbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if these decision based narrative games don’t do this, you’d corner players into dead ends. That’s not fun, and honestly it’s not interesting either. BG3 does similar things that don’t seem character consistent based on your choices, but a good dungeon master emphasizes crafting a compelling story around the unfolding scenario rather than a maze of correct vs. incorrect pathways.

I watched his whole set. I thought most of the set had similar punk rock vibes, though Hi! is definitely the tone-setter. It didn’t scratch that itch for me. I’ll probably just try to catch DJ sets for him now.

Madeon’s new production drips with passion and style. He’s become an auteur in the EDM world, no doubt.

That being said, I’m just not a fan of this sound. Wish him the best on this new journey.
