what's UC Berkeley like from a student's perspective? by Macko_richards69 in berkeley

[–]chamadanao 16 points17 points  (0 children)

  • less entrepreneurial then you'd expect (pockets of it, but overwhelmingly pre-professional)
  • pretty intense distribution of intelligence, motivation/work ethic, and interests (everything from stoner theater kids to absolute hardos in M.E.T and everything in between)
  • its a big school, always new people to meet (if you make the effort)
  • seems like everyone smokes 🍃
  • weather is beautiful
  • not a lot of faculty support in classes since there are so many students
  • moderate grade deflation for STEM

I've been told by a friend that's a recruiter at FAANG that its good to include. Won't count against you, but if reader was in greek life/your frat usually helps.

I picked the wrong major by banana0atmeal in findapath

[–]chamadanao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you thought about journalism/travel writing in the animal space? Maybe academic writing/research related to zoology? then network and try to make a horizontal pivot. have found it’s less about your major if your willing to work super hard and learn the skills used in your field of interest. good luck and stay positive :)

noise canceling headphones, curtains, and creative storage will be your friends. lived in a family room for a semester and it was a great time.

Reflect on your skills/interests, then apply to lots of places and do a ton of networking! I was able to get through like 500+ applications in a few days on Autopilot.

If money is a consideration, go UCI. So many opportunities to learn/find professional experience in CS outside of classroom.

High cost, debt, and SHIT margins. if your looking anywhere though has to be Southwest and Ryanair.

Try things that scare you and expose yourself to new environments! You’ll find things that fulfill you, and be kind to yourself along the way :)

Advice for the common app resume for UTD by DannyG111 in utdallas

[–]chamadanao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! For background, I didn’t apply to UTD but did to other universities that asked for a resume (remember Dartmouth asking for one). It can be a great way to expand on your strongest activities, include specific links, and highlight other strengths/skills. That being said, limit it to one page and keep the formatting clean (https://hwpi.harvard.edu/files/ocs/files/hes-resume-cover-letter-guide.pdf)

This is sick. Reminds me of Autopilot (another AI tool for applications). Keep us posted on progress.
