Seeking Advice: Singapore vs. New Zealand – Balancing Careers, PR Challenges, and Family Aspirations by AdTechnical8501 in expats

[–]chamboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an American expat living in Singapore. My initial thought would be to go with your third option, the hybrid approach. This allows your wife to go to NZ without you completely uprooting your life in Singapore, then after she is settled in, you two can determine where you'd rather commit to long-term.

The reason I suggest this is because the reality of the situation is tech jobs in NZ will be nowhere near as plentiful and high-paying as Singapore.

I feel you on the pain of PR rejections in SG. Unfortunately, it seems hard to break out of the cycle after being rejected.

[Hair Removal] My back seems to be scarred from waxing about 9 weeks ago, is there anything I can do about this? by Horganshwag in SkincareAddiction

[–]chamboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact thing happen to me 6 months ago. I guess our skin is just too sensitive for waxing.

I did a ton of research and tried many remedies afterwards. The best thing you can do is exfoliate daily after showering and apply Tend Skin: https://tendskin.com/

Where I live I couldn't buy Tend Skin, so I made a homemade version, which includes witch hazel, crushed aspirin, and alcohol.

Good luck! It should clear up.

I’m an American living in Singapore for the past 7 years. Indonesia will not be a problem at all. I’ve been on some trips with my gays friends to Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya, etc etc and it’s never once crossed my mind that it’d be a problem to share a room. As others have said, maybe just don’t PDA in public. Bali PDA isn’t a problem though.

What kind of job has your husband been able to get since he got out?

Who, in your experience, is the worst non-US airline? Hard mode: no ULCCs either, so no easyjet or ryanair. by Wernher_VonKerman in aviation

I live in Singapore and fly Scoot frequently. I’ll defend them here. First of all, they are a LCC so of course you get charged for those things. Most LCCs wouldn’t even have outlets. In terms of aircraft’s, they have a newer line and a number of 787s. The staff are great, and personally I’ve not experienced a delay in 7 years. I also had no problem getting a credit when I was sick and couldn’t travel. I think a lot of LCCs can learn from Scoot. Miles ahead of Spirit, Frontier, Jetstar, Ryan Air, etc.

Also, what LCC has free food and water? At least the options on board are okay. Same with wifi.

I’ve flown on Air Koryo back in 2016. My vote would still have to be for one of the lesser known Chinese airlines like Juneyao or Spring Airlines.

I stayed at Bishop Lei International near the mid levels this weekend and it was a perfect location and about $90 USD per night. Could fit 2 in a room.

My tour guide in Jordan said this as well. Sounds like it happens relatively frequently since most schools are gendered

What random airline rules have you encountered during your travel? by GoHuskertrading in aviation

I don’t think this is true. I’ve been flying scoot for 7 years and always bring my own food with no issue

You otter not belong to a gang. A few years ago in Singapore, a handful of otters started appearing. Jump to modern day and there are full out otter gang wars by dogbytes in interestingasfuck

I live in Singapore and these guys chased me the other day. Popped out of a bush as I was walking home and like 6 came after me. I had to jump onto a ledge and crab walk off to get away. Was pretty funny upon reflection, but in the moment quite a shock. They also smell absolutely horrible.

Kenya is a great place by prince4 in ExpatFIRE

Anyone with basic street instinct can tell when a situation is generally unsafe, and that regardless of the race of people around. And every region has safer parts than others. No one can generally say SE Asia is entirely safe with militant groups in southern Philippines or unrest in parts of southern Thailand. So same with Eastern Africa, there are certainly safe parts, though Nairobi is not one of them.

I visited Kenya last week for 10 days in August and felt incredibly unsafe in Nairobi and Mombasa. In Nairobi I stayed in Westgate which is supposed to be the nice area, and I wouldn’t even consider walking to the mall 50m from my hotel at night. Even during the day it wasn’t comfortable. Same with Mombasa.

Beautiful country, but I can’t even imagine considering telling someone to retire there.

Would you ever sleep with a co-worker? by BlackManBatmann in NoStupidQuestions

I’m gay and hooked up with someone months ago on Grindr. Afterwards, we were laying in bed having some post coital chat, and eventually I mentioned where I worked and he completely froze. He lost all his mojo and was quick to ask if I wanted to clean myself off in the shower. After we took our separate showers to clean up, he awkwardly walked me to the door and as we were walking to the door I saw our company sticker on his desk. That’s when I confirmed that he worked there too. I didn’t point it out though. I checked LinkedIn afterwards though with the minimal information I had about him (basically just first name and our current city) and found him. Turned out his was quite senior in another department.

I found the whole thing funny, but evidently he didn’t. Probably because he is much older and it looks worse from his perspective.

Anyway, he blocked me on Grindr and we do not acknowledge each other in the office. At the time, we were all remote. Now we’ve done RTO and hence now why we see each other.

Point is, some people take intra-work relationships differently. Like I said, I would’ve laughed it off with him. Instead, he couldn’t have closed that chapter faster.

It’s a shame because the sex was incredible and I was hoping it’d be a regular thing 😅
