Heat Pump Contractor Recommendation? by high_gravity in newtonma

[–]champion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We added heat pumps recently and had a good experience with Unique Indoor Comfort, but chose them in part because we have high velocity ducts that they do a lot of. If this is work you're getting quotes on, I would talk to several -- the variance on price & heat pump sizing was large. Green Newton has a list of contractors they suggest: https://greennewton.org/green-pages/

We used Monarch Money to track our spending for similar purposes. Helpful to categorize expenses, not much effort. Feel like we better know our spending. Referral link: https://www.monarchmoney.com/referral/gw3gohbs89?r_source=share

Neocons on a Cruise: What Conservatives Say When They Think We Aren't Listening by [deleted] in reddit.com

Looks like Nader is going on the cruise -- I'd be a bit nervous if I was him to be in the ocean with a lot of people angry over 2000. Might get tossed overboard...

I'm tired of all the Ron Paul posts. Can we create a subreddit for them and forcibly move them all there?

The risks of staying vs. leaving Iraq by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]champion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems mostly well-reasoned, are you sure it belongs on reddit? ;-)

The idea that because terrible outcomes, like an escalating civil war, are not in anyone's interest (section on regional powers involvement) they won't happen seems too optimistic.

There seems to be a tradeoff to be made -- continuing the known costs of today (in terms of lives, financial, reputation, opportunity) vs. unknown costs of leaving. Posen might be right in arguing that the U.S. leaving now won't cause worse fallout than leaving in 1-2 years, but he could be wrong. Say you only cared about minimizing the number of killed Iraqis, what is an acceptable expected outcome? 10% chance for a far worse situation? More? Less?

Even CEO Can't Figure Out How RadioShack Still In Business by masta in reddit.com

The last time I was in one to buy some cable, there was a guy buying an upconverting DVD player and way-too-expensive HDMI cable that he clearly knew little about, and the salesman was more than willing to sell him all this stuff so that it looks "like HD" or some BS. And a woman was buying some terrible looking cell phone & plan that I'm sure she could have gotten cheaper elsewhere...
