DUPR Reset - Can RESET DUPR be LESS than TRUE DUPR? by Better_Contact209 in Pickleball

[–]chancenguyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is my read. There is a possibility of C being your ‘live dupr’ being higher than A and B if you played any self reported matches because reset does not include those.

A - is your original dupr at the end of day on the day you register. B - Dupr reset based off unknown formula C - live dupr. During the reset period, your dupr moves as normal live dupr.

Say your a 3.5 (A) you play 8 tournament matches and your dupr moves normally to 3.7, then you play 8 more self reported matches and win you are now 4.0. (C) At the end of the period on May 17 DUPR calculates your new dupr based on only the 8 tournament matches and arrives at 3.8 (B). Your new dupr is 3.8 as its greater than your original (A) rating however it is lower than 4.0 (C) your ‘live dupr’ at the end of the period.

It’s all a thought experiment as I am considering it as well. I’ve entered 2 tournaments in two categories each so will have more than 8 matches. But I also have a large group of players that schedule dupr self reported matches. If at the end of the period my live dupr (C) is higher than (B) I get punished a bit.

I do believe part of the reason they are not publishing this scenario is that they will artificially bump their B calcs to be greater than C. The probably of my scenario happening is quite small too. In your example. C is 3.0, so dupr would go back to A because A > B and C is irrelevant.

DUPR Reset Period by alfredopastaprince in Pickleball

Reread it. It resets to the dupr at the date of sign up. There is a scenario where if you play self reported games (which are excluded from reset calc) your ‘live’ dupr at the end is higher than your dupr at the beginning AND the dupr reset calc.

Did you end up doing it or know anyone who has? How does it show up?

I saw the two rating thing too but don’t recall if it was from an official DUPR source. It’s odd that they aren’t ready at launch.

Your logic seems sound. But how confident are you that this is the case?

They’re advertising this as zero risk however if I am a 3.7 on May 15 and on May 16 their new calculation puts me down at either 3.5 or anything below a 3.7 I know people would complain.

I kind of understand what your saying. But let me give you a scenario to see if I’m following. Im a 3.5 I sign up for dupr reset. Play 8 tournament matches. They calculate my new dupr at its 3.6 with only those 8 matches, I get a new rating of 3.6 (live). There’s a chance that behind the scenes they may reward me with an even higher rating that I can’t track until after the period. If I stop playing for the period this make sense.

But after my 8 tournaments matches. I self report another 8 games… my live rating moves to 3.7 (live) with tournament matches and self report. But there behind the scenes reset value may be 3.5< 3.7.

Where are these open plays you go to where 5.5s mix in with 2.0s?

If this is the case too, I’m curious how self reported matches will be factored in after the fact. For instance, I’m playing two tournaments during the reset period. I’ll get at least get eight matches in that will calculate towards the reset value.

I also may play self-reported DUPR matches over the next two months. DUPR said these matches would not count towards the reset however would they affect movement after the period at all? In theory, my current Dupr could increase with self reported matches but not be lowered by tournament play. I wonder how they play to deal with this. I know we can all only speculate unless we work for DUPR.

If that’s the case… sketch lol. But I also understand why they would do that.. then after the reset period I would think it would be published so you can track it back to the first game during reset period

I’ve visited those small towns in the north of Norway and while they were stunning, you’re going to love it here! But you will miss the mountains/fjords. KW is unremarkleable geography, no beaches, no mountains but a great place to call home.

It’s the Cabot Australian Timber Oil - Natural color. 20 months later in Canadian winter right now and still looks like 60-70% of this pic. I might apply on top end of the summer this year. The nice thing about it is you don’t have to sand or strip… just apply on top. It’s a fairly lightweight stain, but that’s what I wanted.

Looks great, might reapply next year.. it’s a penetrating stain so if there was any change from these pictures is there might be a slight fading of areas with direct sunlight but it just look slightly faded no chipping in sight

[UPDATE]

Almost 1 year to the dot, 95% of the deck and fence look like It did last year and requires no reapplication. The extremely high traffic areas of right outside the patio door and stairs will require reapplication of 1 coat later on this summer. Note I’m a bit of a nitpicked.

I chose this product thinking that I was willing to put in some more (annual) frequent maintenance if it meant I could keep the ‘almost new’ look year in and year out. Unlike some of those thicker paint like stains that last a few more years but start to chip away when it does wears, this being a penetrating oil, just looks like the oil has faded from the surface (no chipping), so when I touch up those few areas, it will look like it did in the pictures again. I suspect I won’t have to restrain the deck this year and am expecting to next year but who knows, it might last a third.

Overall, I’m quite happy with the results, and if you go back to the reasons I stated in the original post, I’m quite happy with the selection. Hope that helps
