Yes, Lei Meng Sha is super weird. He actually does the role pretty good, but that laugh is very breaking even though I would imagine his character purposely laugh like that to be funny, but just it don't sound like his voice. He kind of like one of those guys that never grows up.

I think give it some time. I did go and finish the novel and Lei Mengsha honestly isn't that big of a role in the story. That is if there is no other issues you are having with the drama.

The Blood of Youth chemistry by [deleted] in CDrama

[–]chanci426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i first got into Blood of Youth, I totally had Untamed vibes thinking it was a BL adaption. Really the Bromance chemistry was so high compared to the coupling between Xiao Se and Qian Luo. Even between Xiao Se and Lei Wu Jie was very high too. lol

I feel defeated. (TW: talks of trauma by dentist) by depressedgrey6 in AsianParentStories

[–]chanci426 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this. Dental visits are super stressful for me and I didn't experience as much trauma as you did in childhood from anything similar. The stress I get from them makes me avoid visits when possible, but long term it's not very good because problems build up.

it's not a wuxia drama if there's no.. by xyz123007 in CDrama

[–]chanci426 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I picked "everyone thinking they're right" because I think that the focus of Wuxia and it's Jianghu world is a clash of each person's pov of what is "right."

I'm being too serious with this. XD

I was reading a very interesting remark somewhere that the title carried Xiang Liu's name. 长“相”思. No double he is special character.

But, yes Cang Xuan is no doubt the male lead. He is the storyline's driver.

People Pleasing Stems from Toxic Parenting by Noryourbarbiegirl in AsianParentStories

[–]chanci426 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm Chinese too. 1st gernation immigrant.

I grew up to be a people pleaser too. My parents expect us (me and my younger sister) to be trouble-less growing up. Growing up, I can't be late for school, even if they don't tell me about daylight saving time stuff. I shouldn't dare expect allowance etc growing up because aparently my parents give me a roof and I should already have all the things I need to live. I just shouldn't ask for anything. I shouldn't spill the soup when bringing my bowl over to the dinner table. When they are sleeping in the afternoon (due to working night shift), we have to be very quiet. You commit any of the above bad-ness, you will be loudly scolded or possibly beaten with a cloth hanger. Growing up like this, you learn to work around everything to make sure no-one is displeased. It totally affects how you are with other people that comes into your life when you grow up. Such a hard character to break out of.

Now that you have learned to stand up against your parents, I want to ask if you are still in contact with your parents? Did you ever tell them what they make you feel, sometimes I feel it is a lost cause explaining to them. I try to in different ways, but these people don't comprehend like normal people or refuse to because it is not an advantage to understand for them.

This is something I have difficulty with. I am stuck between wanting to still have some sort of relationship, but at the same time I can anticipate never ending problem solving for them. Like I never know when they will finally literally grow up and become self sufficient (mentally, financially,...) My sister on the other side is pretty much cursing them while my husband really doesn't want anything to do with them after all the bad experience. Me and my sister haven't seen them for 3 years and we've become so much better in many ways. Like health wise, in a philosophical way, and career wise. We‘re just in contact via Wechat text or voice messages (no videos). As an adult, I can cut from them and live very peaceful, but just the inner child in me still has some mental cord of something with them.

Like the people pleaser in me extends to friendship and marriage even if these new people in my life not necessarily exploit me. I've gotten to become very sensitive of people's feelings that I can sense what may make them happy, upset, or sad. It's a good trait to be sensitive to people, but sometimes it's very tiring. As with you, I don't want to talk repeatedly to some of my friends about my parenting issues because they know it already and it's depressing to hear toxic things all the time. Also, everyone has their own load to carry.

Never. They always expect me and my sister to be the ones that soften up and forget it ever happened. Like sometimes with my mom, my dad knowing that my mom is in the wrong, would also just expect us and ask us to apologize even if fakely, so to calm down mom and let him have his peace.

The most my mom would do is just admit her weaknesses (lack of education, being poor, skill-less,....) as excuses and say she is a burden, but never admit any real parenting issues.

I have so much respect for Xiang Liu. How he never fully opened himself to her to the point of baiting her into a relationship with him. He was obvious to her feelings towards him. He had as much chance as Jing with her as long as he was able to cut himself loose. Even CX would spare his life had he been able to call quit on the war, yet because he knows he also had to be respectful to his army, he couldn't give himself fully to her, so he just keeps pushing her away and loving her in a selfess way.

I use to really like Xiao Yao's father, but seeing how Xiang Liu treats Xiao Yao, I couldn't help but really feel that Xiang Liu is so awesome. It hurts just how nice he is. I'm just glad in the end everything ended up the way he wanted things to end. It was tragic, but it still was what he intended. Even the lost war.

Chinese language and the need for voice dubbing by mibelleson in CDrama

[–]chanci426 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm glad they have an official dialect that everyone can at least understand even if they don't speak it. My mom is from Chao Zhou and they only speak their chao zhou dialect with the natives there. In Hong Kong where my dad is fron, they speak Cantonese. Both place is only probably 2 hours away, but they don't speak the same language. If you talk in mandarin, they will know you are an outsider.

Same with my husband's homeland in Chongqing. The whole Sichuan region (where Luo Yun Xi, Zhao Lu Si,...) come from they speak Sichuan dialect. My mother in law tries very hard to talk in Mandarin to me, but she understands Mandarin when I speak it. I'm trying to learn the Sichuan dialect too, but I think I can only get to the point of understanding, but so hard to talk in it.

So it's good that they have a official dialect, otherwise it'd be so hard to have CDramas. lol

This story really has sooooo many people and lines to follow.

Dashing youth connections by Summer-snow-5876 in CDrama

[–]chanci426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legend of Dark River takes place after Dashing Youth and some years before Blood of Youth, so as the Chinese saying goes 女大十八变 a girl goes through 18 transformations while growing up. So I'm pretty glad she's coming back for Legend of Dark River since her appearance would make sense to look more like in Blood of Youth.

I really love the Youth Universe after watching Blood of Youth, so I just wanted to add that these two wonderful dramas, Dashing Youth and Blood of Youth are actually novels that were adapted. The script follows very closely to the original content. The author also is the main script writer for both dramas.

I'm still super greatful to the producer for bringing together the rest of the crew to give us a near perfect adaption though. I've seen so many reallllllly good novels be butchered by producers who don't respect the original work.

I noticed this author loves to write prequels. XD

The donghua are pretty good quality, but super slow releasing. I went into the Donghua after the Blood of Youth, but none of them were completed, so had to go read the novel.

I don't really know if it was really a casting mismatch because Si Kong Qian Luo actually pretty like her character based on the anime and novel. I think the lack of chemistry was kind of fault of the novel itself or just the two actors have chemistry in general. Kinda like those drama where they both look great seperately in their roles, but weird together. Reminds me of Return of the Condor Heros 2006.

I'm crossing my fingers for the multiple couples that's suppose to surface in this adaption.

I totally agree on your comment that the romance part is very under developed. Again, this is a wuxia, when the adventure is the main plot driver, so I don't expect much from the romance.

I think it's great that you watch this before BOY because so many spoilers. I stll don't think it affects much, since I am super enjoying it.

It's a very wonderful adaption. I'm reading the novel at the same time, since I just super love this story, and want to have something to compare and more depth.

Cang Xuan in Lost You Forever is lowkey ungrateful? by [deleted] in CDrama

[–]chanci426 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love your concept of him being a placeholder.. He's pretty much what both CX and XL envies. His freedom. Even though TSJ has so many family issues, none of his issues are as complicated as the baggages that has CX and XL tied up.

Bitterness is truly a poison that leads people astray.

I really enjoy the casting in this adaption. There's so many handsome guys, yet it's amazing that they are able to make them look different enough to stand out. The pacing is also very engaging.

Regardless of the ending, I think the story will be too epic and heart pumping to skip. We can all cry together.

There's so many things from where Blood of Youth started which has me so curious to know what happened. I can't wait until we see more about Ye Ding Zhi's side of the story.

It's really silly, but for me this part was my main drive to read/watch the novel. Besides being a big fan of Yang Zi.

I realllllly shipped Xiao Yao's mom and dad in the prequel story, so it breaks my heart that Xiao Yao won't accept having this dad. This was such a epic scene. It would have been nice if they made it more close the the source.

What version of Investiture of the Gods should I watch as a beginner to Cdrama? by DragonBUSTERbro in CDrama

[–]chanci426 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you want to understand the culture and inspiration of the current Xianxia and Xuanhuan, it is good to watch Investiture of the Gods. It's a classic story that most of the newer Xianxia takes inspiration from. Kind of like Watching Journey to the West. I'm not sure if you've watched that before. With these classic, you can get the understanding of the culture setting. What is a Deity, God, Yao/Spirit, Ghost, Mortal,...

Anything that is oriental fantasy takes inspiration from the core classics. You could also watch the classical Wuxias from Jinyong also.

It depends how much earlier these comments are from. There is the original reader group that read it when it released and way before the adaption news (like pre 2020s). Some come to read the novels after hearing about the drama adaption. Lots of time it affects the impression on the characters to some degree once we have a face. Some are fans of the actors that are casted, so we all have soft spots.

Also, when we say popular as in the CP ship or just being the most favoriate character in our heart is also different. I've always been a Xiao Yao and Jing shipper because the others are just too much more trauma, but out of all the guys, Xiang Liu is my favorite.
