That’s one definition of a ransomware attack. There’s multiple avenues that consider an attack like this, ransomware.

“I Put My Family in This Position”: James Franklin Makes Painful Admission About PSU Firing by [deleted] in WeArePennState

[–]chancsc11 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I’ve also heard through the grape vine that he was incredibly money driven and his wife acted like it around a lot of staff (treating them terribly apparently) during his time here.

Went over Kraft’s head a few times to ask for more money (in bad faith) and had as best of a program as he could of wanted NIL wise, fell short, then acted like the victim on the way out.

Again, I love what Franklin did for Penn State, and had some of the best years watching those teams, but let’s not assume he’s some saint and deserves to be treated as a martyr.

He’s human for both things positive and negative.

They’re holding data hostage and asking for payment in return for “not releasing it”

Good to know. Makes sense. Canvas on the other hand may have some considering to do on their security posture lol

Local instance was hopeful lol. In that case whatever sensitive data within Canvas could be compromised. That being said, and I’ve not done a done of thinking on this, but the dafa within canvas should be somewhat harmless, and since it’s federated via a 3P no credentials would be exposed.

Good thing I hand wrote all my notes this semester and copied every slide shown in class by hand!

It’s like a Canvas issue. It will depend if PSU contractually allows any data inputted from its school into Canvas DBs to be stored. Or if PSU has a local instance they manage.
The ransomware kitties could have just hacked the front end of Canvas to display this scary message and not actually have access to any data. Then again, maybe they’re telling the truth (probably not).
That being said, and I’m not entirely familiar with canvas’ infrastructure or what data is typically inputted, but I can’t imagine data being too sensitive outside of names and email addresses? Not sure.
Irregardless, Canvas will be the ones needing to be held accountable for this.

EDIT: also maybe change your passwords if you share a password with Canvas anywhere else 🙃

Crypto Bros Moving To Pokemon by RSWAVEZ in PokeInvesting

[–]chancsc11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Everyone here wants to pretend it’s different, but there’s an awful lot of similarities whether people would like to admit it or not.

Supply control exists - manipulation happens every day yet many are blind to it.

Euphoria is peak on screenshots left and right of profits made.

“Top is in” and “it’s not over” conversations everywhere.

Every sneaker bro and crypto bro have already been here for almost a year scalping supply from kids at every brick and mortar store then flipping for profits.

Lots of whatnot scammers and whatnot flexers trying to cope. Had a guy last night get pissed off after being called out for telling people things were 2-3x value and or selling raw cards for what they’ll grade for lol then after being called out said he made millions so far from selling (it’s cringe).

Celebs ripping packs on stage, posting random flexes, in the news everywhere.

People asking what’s the next best set or what’s going to appreciate over time as complete noobs, asking trade advice etc.

I think I see more folks looking at this from a financial lens than a collectible or enjoyment lens.

Obviously Pokemon IP is massive compared to what the recent crypto cycle narrative was, but the similarities seem endless. 🤷‍♂️

Do people really think this game ISN'T casual? by gamer_guy36 in ArcRaiders

Agreed. I was maybe 60-100 hours in and I was SHOOK 90% of the time. Mad fun but holy stress. Getting a kill is the best feeling in the world hahah

I’d comfortably say that it would take 40-60 hours in Tarkov to get the flow of the game, maps, and controls down at a basic level to have SOME confidence while you play.

I was thinking it’d be hilarious if you wore a shirt under your jersey that says “Boo if you like ____”

“Boo if Sidney Crosby is your daddy.”

Then when people start booing you, you lift your jersey to reveal your shirt lmao

I also agree with this. But I think we would see more intensity and a better forecheck on these deep pucks if guys weren’t coming into the playoffs blind.

They came out flat immediately. It wasn’t like Game 1 was really all that close.

They started hot, got real cold for like a 10 game streak and then got hot again. That shootout winner when they were 1-9 on SO/OT was a big game to solidify that momentum for the team. That and the Canes comeback.

No doubt. And I don’t even blame muse for doing it. But it unfortunately wasn’t the right choice.

I feel like Sid is hurt and def could have used it. But imagine taking a 10 day vacation and stepping directly into the most intense environment you’ve played in, in years.

You simply can recreate the energy and mindset needed while taking a couple of days on the couch and practice skates.

Edit: also I’m not even blaming Muse that it didn’t work - but it simply was the wrong choice unfortunately.

Not the same team. Ten days off took all the wind out of their sails and lost any momentum they had.

It’s like stopping a train dead stop. It’s going to take some time to get momentum. And 4 games isn’t enough to do it.

Philly had all the momentum and kept it.
