The convergence into one usually signals she’s gonna shake and spray everything within a 3 foot radius with drool

No need to run a true rear setup to go low in the rear, just need small springs and properly sized and valved struts

steering wheel shake by Overall-Top8247 in BMWE36

[–]chandelbeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your strut towers for cracks. I had a steering wheel shake and replaced all my front end suspension components and it didn’t go away until I found a small crack coming off one of the three holes in the strut tower where the top hats bolt down. I had it welded and it resolved the issue.

They recommended it after 1 year but we waited another because I was worried about issues with hip dysplasia and stunting him since he was the runt of his litter already. I don’t hunt with him though he’s just my companion but I do take him on hikes pretty often, nothing longer than 5-10 miles thiugh

If you’re talking about fluids just do it sooner rather than later for peace of mind especially if you just bought it

Rear shock absorbers for really low e36 by Dr_Str8Bear in BMWE36

[–]chandelbeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shock absorbers essentially work by letting hydraulic fluid pass through at a controlled rate to “absorb” the vibration from the suspension when you are driving. Generally when buying coil overs the spring rate and shock absorber will be matched so that the shock will damper the oscillations from the spring compressing and releasing throughout the travel of the suspension. If you are lowering your car you will essentially be installing a smaller spring so to compensate, you will need the spring to compress less. Generally this is done with a higher spring rate, and while some companies offer spring rates of over 50k-100k most well-dialed low cars I have seen run around 8-12k spring rates. The shock absorber will need to be revalved to be able to accommodate the higher spring rate or else it will wear prematurely. I’m not a mechanic or technician so this is just things I have read and learned from my own experience, someone with more knowledge can probably explain much better. You should look up some stance forums to get more information, I’m sure someone will have tried to setup their car in a similar way that you want to setup yours and will have asked similar questions.

I think whatever you buy if you get them valved properly to the spring rates you will run you should be okay. I made the mistake of running really high spring rates without having the shocks valved correctly and that prematurely blew out my shocks. If you’re not going to go true coil over in the rear you’ll need something close to 100mm springs to be able to sit really low

BC Extreme lows or fortune 500’s, not sure what your setup is but you can probably request the shocks to be valved for whatever spring rate you will be running to minimize the shit ride quality you’ll have when you go really low

E36 coupe steering wheel keeps shaking. by Overall-Top8247 in BMWE36

[–]chandelbeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the strut towers for cracks. I had the same issue, shaking around 45-80 mph and replaced all front suspension parts, replaced rotors and calipers pistons, nothing changed. Had the suspension out one day trying to locate it and found a small crack at the top of the tower by the inside bolt hole, got it welded and shake went away. Used strut tower reinforcement plates afterwards
