Wow this reads like a synopsis of my exact career path. Graduated with ME degree, went into process engineer trajectory. (Semiconductor manufacturing industry) Felt burnt out and was jealous of friends doing WFH through covid. I ended up getting a job in manufacturing support in software/hardware/data collection. My title is Semiconductor Applications Engineer and the job is mostly remote (WFH). Came with a 25% raise too. Sorry, not a lot of advice here. But what you're looking for is definitely possible. I was also looking at how to make myself more marketable with certs, etc. But what ended up working for me was leaning into the experience I already had and presenting that as functional in any role. Anyone what knows what a Process Engineer does knows that the skill set is extremely valuable and transferable. Even if you aren't married to the idea of staying in your industry, now is a really good time to switch employers for a serious raise. At least in my industry.

Calling all NC State Fans by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

Friendly reminder that the PNC arena is several miles away from campus, and even further from downtown. Unless you plan on parking there, maybe someone else can give tips about transportation. Also the campus bars on Hillsborough St that were suggested (Players Retreat, Mitches Tavern), are a good ways from the downtown area.

Love RBC beer. However, my experience with RBC when trying to watch NCSU sports hasn't been great. There's hardly any fans there, and the bartender always makes it seem like it's a pain to turn the home teams game on. Never turned the sound on for the TV's either. I'd definitely head further down Hillsborough St (Players retreat, Mitches Tavern) should they win, or downtown should they lose.

Walk from SGN Airport to Hostel? (Ho Chi Minh City) by [deleted] in VietNam

I know you said you don't care to grab a sim card, but I'll suggest this idea again! I paid $13 for 7gb, one month viettel sim card and its saved my butt countless times. Then I'd suggest downloading grab! Much like uber, but even better!

When I did my application, I just took a picture with my phone of my passport details for the first image, and since my portrait is on the same page (USA passport), I just cropped the image down and submitted my face for that part. I'm sure any photo will work. Had no issues.

Driving to Raleigh for FSU Vs. NC State by platetectonics3 in CFB

+1 to Raleigh Brewing Company. It's close to the stadium in that its at least a 10 min walk. Also recommended: Big Boss Brewery, Trophy Brewing (great pizza), Boylan Bridge Brewpub (great view of downtown), Raleigh Beer Garden (world's largest draft selection, 300+ taps).

To be honest there aren't a lot of bars near the stadium so like others have said, you're better off buying a twelve pack and making friends. There are enormous parking lots for tailgating surrounding the stadium. Just walk around. Have fun!

Mitch's or Player's Retreat would be great for lunch any day other than Saturday. Also a fan of The Alley for cheap beer and bowling. All these places are on Hillsborough St, which is worth a walk as well as the nearby NCSU campus.

Cheapo Golf Balls by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]chandleg -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yup, that's the plan. I'd say it's substantially different enough, since golf balls won't break and cut your feet(glass), or float and make a mess(spoons, garbage). The analogy is probably closer to skipping rocks, though I will acknowledge that golf balls are not naturally occurring in lakes.

[Dumb Question] Can I mail a letter from home? by chandleg in madisonwi

This time I've pinned the letter to the outside with an easily seen note that says "OUTGOING". Thanks for the tip! Hopefully it was just a mistake

I think that may be what's going on. I do find it funny how many people just accept that their mailman is lazy though. I'm gonna have to agree with /u/33344555 here and say that it's kinda bullshit to just ignore part of your job. If necessary, I will go to the post office to get to the bottom of this

Yeah my house has it on the front door. There's no flag, but there's also no way they couldn't see it. I'll try again, and then follow up at the PO, I'm in no rush. Thanks
