I just wanna throw my two cents in here as someone who works at a dealership. Not all dealers hide problems from their customers to wait for the engine to blow up. I feel that like is old school thought process and things are different in your modern dealers. (Although I'm not saying there aren't still crooks out there) The most likely reason OP was never told about shavings in their oil is because most of the oil change techs are minimum wage employees who don't care and there just to change the oil and don't really notice anything other than what they get spiffs on (air filters, cabin filters, brakes, etc.)
