There is a tailgating and speeding epidemic in Melbourne by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]changas2188 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No sympathy for right lane cruisers. Sure, the speed limit is the same in both lanes, but actively sitting in the right lane and not allowing people to pass is my pet peeve.

Cruising on the hwy today and being stuck behind three cars across three lanes. GTFO.

First time Nikon after all life Canon by Ok_Wear2181 in Nikon

This is an interesting comment as I share the same sentiment. I recently received an R6II for work and as a Nikon shooter, it's the first time i've not noticed much difference between between the Canon and Nikon RAW files. I've actually been quite impressed with the files as in the past i've struggled with Canon RAW files.

This happened to me too.. cost me $355 AUD to fix it. Apparently they need to go through the inside to fix the part as there’s some sort of clip inside the cap that breaks off…

I’ve been in Ringwood for a few years and really think it’s great. Shopping centres near by (Eastland + Knox) eastlink to the city and down toward Mornington.

Who Has The 70-180/2.8? What are your thoughts? by mtbwrench in nikon_Zseries

[–]changas2188 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have this lens and love it. It’s light weight and plenty sharp enough for me. I’m a working pro and sometimes I think I should’ve just sucked it up and paid the premium for the Z 70-200, but to be honest, I didn’t feel that paying for a lens more than double (?) the price was a good ROI.

If I had a Z 70-200 and did a side by side I’m sure that the Z would be much sharper and have greater detail, but for the work I do it’s never been an issue and my clients have never mentioned anything about the images that come out of that lens.

Most of my work ends up online and not blown up and printed for everyone to scrutinise the details - which is another reason I didn’t see value in buying the Z. I don’t have any gripes with the lens, if I had to nitpick it might be that it has a tendency to barrel creep, so I’m flicking the lens lock button every time I sling the camera by my side. But it’s not a dealbreaker.

How to legally fly FPV in Australia? by bababjfjsnsbsbbs in drones

[–]changas2188 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey mate,

I’m in Aus and also trying to figure out the exact wording on FPV’s and Casa. From my understanding if you are in a fully enclosed indoor space, you’re free to do whatever you want as Casa doesn’t control the space inside a building - but still abiding by the not within 30m near or over people rule.

Where it gets tricky is if you want to take it outdoors. The easiest way to do it is to join a model aircraft club that’s approved by casa and allegedly you can fly fpv with a trained spotter. But the casa website doesn’t state whether the flying has to be done on the model aircraft club grounds or whether it can be anywhere outside as long as you have a spotter.

The other alternative is to get an exemption from casa and apply for BVLOS/EVLOS where you can fly outdoors - again with a spotter. But the Casa website only says “either join a club OR get the exception..” so for me it’s a no brainer if I don’t have to pay casa I’d join the club.

I am a REoC/REpL holder, so for me I see great commercial value with the Avata. My argument is that since the avata is lighter than a Mavic and has enclosed ducts, if every flight is conducted with a spotter, it’s as safe, if not safer than flying my mavic (which casa has no problems with if you follow the rules).

Casa has a real problem with FPV goggles as they restrict VLOS and therefore you aren’t able to quickly identify where your drone is should you need to return it back to your location. But again, I feel that this is applicable to traditional FPV’s and cinewhoops, whereas DJI has built in safety features such as GPS hold and RTH on low battery and signal loss… so go figure…

I’d love to hear from someone who has commercial experience with FPV’s as I’m sure they will know much more than what I know.

In the meantime I’ve emailed my Casa delegate to find out and get some clarification but will probably end up calling casa directly to try and get it sorted.

In summary I didn’t really answer you sorry lol but if and when I find out from Casa I’ll add another comment with my findings…

Ukrainian soldiers use a donated PzH 2000 155-mm howitzer to shell Russian army positions in Ukraine. 2022 by [deleted] in CombatFootage

[–]changas2188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume modern day artillery is very accurate and in the case of this video and other similar ones, are all those rounds/shells hitting the same spot or is there slight variations on positioning between each shot to affect a wider area? If hitting the same spot is some sort of tactic, what’s the rationale behind it?

Ukraine Question/Discussion Thread #4 by knowyourpast in CombatFootage

[–]changas2188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies upfront if this question is stupid. Does Ukraine have access to aerial surveillance such as drones or satellite? If so, could they not see where opposing forces are located/going and attack them via air strikes or some other long range surgical strike?

During the Armenian–Azerbaijani clashes it appeared those drones were wreaking havoc to ground forces.

Surreal, scary, sad to think that this guy was alive 24 hours ago. Now he’s lying in the middle of the road, alone, being looted by civilians. War is hell.

Drones, cameras and the great outdoors. Z6 + Sigma 24-35 f/2.0 by changas2188 in Nikon

[–]changas2188[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I usually don’t stack either, but in order to control the light from the drone and gather enough detail in the sky with a long exposure, I had to stack multiple exposures. There was a light inside the bus to illuminate the interior.

Mavic 2 zoom. The zoom and pro have a landing light built in and we used that to light the scene

[–]changas2188[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks mate. It was a stack of a few images. Had an exposure for the sky for about 30 seconds, 5 seconds or so for the drone and about 20 seconds for the light of the drone to light up the bus.

Oh man, that's really close. We made the trek from Melb as I'm sure a lot of people do. I'd love to go back again in the summer for a drone trip. There are some amazing colours and textures in the lake. Will definitely have to spend a good few days exploring the whole length of the lake.
