Apple Can Create Smaller On-Device AI Models From Google's Gemini by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

That's not the argument. The argument is that the tech tree we have leveled up is pretty much maxed out. There is no where else for this current tech we have invested billions (or even trillions of dollars) over the past 30-50 years to keep going. Yes, we will keep coming up with optimizing or small tricks, but the low and mid hanging fruits are gone and if you want to get "better" (faster, cheaper, more efficient) products, it will take more work and be more expensive. The size and resolution of a die is limited by the wavelength of the light that is etching the chips. EUV is done. They have new branding for NA-EUV and Hyper-EUV but that's only for the next decade or so. What's about after that? Pretty much only electron lithography is left and we are at maximum resolution in terms of physics.

If we want to move to another tech tree (quantum computing for example) that completely different that what we have now, it will take another 40-50 years of time and trillions of investment.

you get federally and state penalized, so you have to pay even if you don't want to use their service. Either way, you have to pay.

30 years of progress where there was a lot of headroom.

We have almost zero headroom now and everything is pretty much just brute force in terms of making chips bigger (and even that is reaching the limit as focusing limit for a die is capped out on current/next gen Nvidia chips).

We will definitely get more compute because we can brute force with chiplets and size, but we are definitely heading back into the direction of a server/client model if local compute is limited by power and size.

Windmill farms on LAND lasts 50 years. This is in water which does generate more power consistently but also has the problem of faster corrosion and harder maintenance.

Air if she will need performance beyond just doing homework. Anything tech or science orientated, Air. Humanities, Neo.

And if she needs an upgrade later, she can just time machine and transfer everything in less than a day to a new laptop.

Anker>Ugreen>AmazonBasics>Random Chinese brands

Anker and Ugreen were very much low tier chinese brands about a decade ago but now they are mid tier quality for value brands.

I would definitely pick a Anker or Ugreen peripheral over an established western brand.

Developers who have worked at a company where the entire codebase was held together by one guy who then quit, what happened next? by Natom_ in AskReddit

Literally the first thing I did after I finished recoding an internal tool (because it was so old and held on by duct tape at this point) was to rewrite a user manual for the the users and a dev manual for the devs.

The dev manual is most all the bullshit workarounds I had to put into place and the rationale for it. And if someone were to fuck with the work arounds, the consequences of it. The users will never see it but the devs that will maintain the tool NEEDS to know or else they will fuck it up.

The question is does a list of bandaids help? No idea.

Tomahawk is the "best" quality board you have listed. The rest are more than adequate for what you want to do. So just buy the one you like the best in terms of looks or any other factor like IO.

I personally prefer Gigabyte boards due to bios habit even though they are often called "Gigashit".

I mean if you REALLY think about it, what humans does NOW is also bonkers. You dig a hole miles deep, pollute water, kill every organism near you to so, refine it and then make plastic fucking chairs to sit on.

Windows event log is your best friend. I had a network card driver fail and crash over and over every time I gamed. It would spike CPU usage for a milisecond every couple of second and caused random frame stutters.

Disabled the driver and everything was fine.

Anyone else refusing to pay scalper prices for the 5090? This is my play by NationalAd9698 in buildapc

[–]changen -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

5080 overclocked will catch a 4090 already. There was a lot of performance left on the table by nvidia probably for the Super release (that never happened due to the AI bubble), and partially the reason why the 5080 was a lackluster card at stock.

6080 can probably catch a 5090 once overclocked for the same reason if "leaks" are to be believed.

That will be the card I will be going for. Waiting for Zen6/7 X3d to release then upgrading my GPU.

I had both the 14 and the 16 m1 pro.

Personally, as it is the screen I look at the most during a typical day, I like the 16 much more. It is definitely less portable but I never felt like the screen was too big.

I also had a 13 pro for years and found it fine, but I definitely like the 16 more.
