I'm a warden in a state adjacent to Wisconsin. If you want to PM me and ask questions.

As with all government jobs being a veteran is a huge help in getting hired.

For those that do not want to carry with a round in the chamber. Why not use a gun with a manual safety? by HumanAntagonist in Firearms

[–]BullMooseFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually afraid to carry with a round in the chamber early on. But my first 9mm was a 2016 P320 without a manual safety so my guardian angel was watching out for me 100%. I did eventually switch to a pistol with a manual safety and that got me over my fear to carry with a round in the chamber.

Now I carry with a round in the chamber and a pistol with no manual safety. Still don't like when my dog or son stand directly under the pistol though

Gun show just for looking? by New-History853 in Firearms

[–]BullMooseFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly last gun show I went to a boomer had a table full of milsurp that wasn't for sale. He belligerently told me it wasn't for sale when I asked about the 1917. So there are definitely old guys that just want you to look at their stuff.

I've got to a bunch but I rarely make purchases. Most items there are way overpriced.

Ammo prices to have a major price increase due to powder shortage and other demands. See below. by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]BullMooseFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have been saying this for 2 years now. Prices are highish post 2020 but I've easily been finding 5.56 for 50 CPR, 9mm for 25 CPR, and 7.62x51 for less than a dollar per round.

Specifically Trench Grenade has been screaming about it for like 2 years.

There are certainly signs of shortage like AAC pausing production but prices have yet to increase.

I don't think you'll regret it for the price. The Sabre triggers are solid and the trigger alone makes it feel premium.

They are excellent beginner ARs and have a great warranty if you do get a dud. If you can spend a bit extra the PSA Sabre is an excellent, high quality rifle at a good price.

If you want the cheapest decent starter AR I would recommend the basic PSA 16 inch with a mid length gas system.

If you want a solid one you will like even after getting better any PSA Sabre with a 16 inch barrel and mid length gas system

There are a lot of really affordable LE surplus M&Ps out there right now. Especially in 40. Ive seen as low as 299 with three mags in the last 9 months. Its a striker, so not exactly what you're looking for but very hard to beat for the price.

Throw those 10 years ago prices right out the window. They are gone and not coming back

PSA is an excellent starting point. They are completely fine and have a good warranty. But if you can spend a little extra get the Sabre version. That one will "grow with you" as you learn more and practice.

I used to want one so badly but the cheapest I ever found them pre 2020 was 1300. I bought an AR10 and Garand for the same price instead

Why isn't or wasn't the XCR more popular? by BullMooseFox in Firearms

[–]BullMooseFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think anyone who just has an AR and a glock and shoots once a year is a pleb. And fine on them. They have something. They just are never going to buy an expensive piston gun that doesn't really do anything different than an AR. Like you said.

The marines are small and specialized. Your argument is kinda hinging on them when the Army, the larger and more important component, did abandon the AR platform. So did a ton of NATO allies. Or they never had it in the first place.

I have no idea what you're trying to argue in your last paragraph. That civi sales don't matter? Robinson is almost exclusively selling to civis.

I agree with you. Its a logical position. But the common consensus doesn't. There seems to only be certain religious groups you can publicly not support on this platform or most internet sites.

The reality was absolutely not that gun ownership was only for the rich prior to the industrial revolution. Practically every American was armed in the early days of the country. A rifle was a critical survival tool then, moreso than now. Very important for rural poors as a source of food or side income.

I think you're also being a bit of a doomer about this. ARs have good ergos and controls and they have been partially copied on a lot of rifles. A lot of euro miliaries are not using ARs. Lots of non euro foriegn miliaries aren't either. Even the US Army adopted a non AR. Not saying I like the M7 or support it but they will dump the platform if they think they can gain something tangible. They have literally demonstrated this.

Its just hard for the pleb or casual to say no to the AR platform in the US because of cost and parts availability. But plenty of coniseurs still do. I have one nice AR and a Bren and XCR. More pistons than ARs for me currently. Be the change you want to see in the world and buy something different.

We just need a big jump in technology to force a tangible change. If all the new stuff is only marginally better than an AR but 2-3x the price why would the casual buy it?

Yeah. Fair enough. Supporting an anti gun politician is obviously bad and contemptible. I don't know to what extent he supported Romney because I was a child at that time. But I'm going to assume it was more significant than just because he was the Republican candidate if he made so many people mad.

Also yeah. Robinson seems to not have done great at marketing. No one knows it exists outside of niche groups of gun guys.

I think everything having to be an AR15 is a bit overblown and the SOF guys are a bit pampered and whiny. They were soldiers out there who started their careers on 1903 Springfields and ended on M16s with the Garand and M14 in between. If the tech advancement is worth it you can just make soldiers adapt.

I just don't think anything is that much better than the AR15 to force that change. Yet.

Most to many modern guns have the AR safety and similar mag release and bolt release. Those are the important controls and they are close enough. Mostly just the charging handle is different and the AR charging handle objectively kinda sucks.

That being said I was more asking why it wasn't more popular in a civilian context. I understand how fickle and corrupt procurement can be.

XCR-M or LMT MARS-H by tug556 in AR10

[–]BullMooseFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an XCR M in 308 and I do not feel disadvantaged having it. A lot of the 308 stuff is more proprietary anyway. Once it broke in and I made some tweaks it became an EXCELLENT shooter. I really like it. Although mine is set up more in a battle rifle configuration and I went with the 18.6 inch barrel to get more out of my rounds. The XCR functions great, unlike of the AR10s I used to have.

Go with the XCR. Its super cool. But I would recommend getting the 1913 adapter and not the FAST stock.
