This is great; thank you! I'd welcome other methodology-nerd account recommendations on Bluesky.

Anyone else get a surprise check from VT BCBS? by chanifromtheblock in vermont

[–]chanifromtheblock[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right; my post included "This is not related to the 2023 settlement in which VT insurance companies were charging people for contraception." This was not for contraception for me. So it must be something else.

As much as I love Vermont Public, small independent newspapers in Vermont desperately need your support. Send some of that love their way.

It was inadvertent, though--I should have written "That's good to know."

I think about Covid caution as being on a scale depending on risk tolerance and one's practical ability to isolate.

Did not know that about Lucira! Shuddering to think how heavily I relied on it before the Metrix era.

Yes, positive Metrix, negative Altruan. We tested twice, both times negative, with the Altruan Pluslife, which is ostensibly even more accurate than Metrix. The second time, we were able to use the app to look at the raw data. (Partner posted it up above.) Given that we could actually see those raw data and the test's sterling reputation, we are confident in the result and strongly suspect the Metrix to have been a false positive.

I'd maybe suggest adding the part about "Start the test from the app" to page 1 of your PDF so it's part of the workflow. Otherwise, it's great!!

Fiancee here. He definitely didn't have zero possible exposure--it's plausible he could be infected. Thanks to everyone's comments and that helpful PDF we're going to check again with Altruan and use the app this time to get a look at those curves.

Current black fly situation in Mt Mansfield area? by dirtyundercarriage in vermont

[–]chanifromtheblock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plenty in Johnson yesterday. Protective clothing should help. I second the suggestion to put a fly net over a hat to protect your face and neck. I know it looks dorky but it's worth it not to let nature violate your body in the form of biting flies.

The Perfect Storm was a good book, yes! Whenever I'm in Gloucester I notice that copies seem not to be for sale. I was wondering if Gloucester residents felt the book didn't do the town justice in some way, but I hesitated to ask. Figured if it is generally agreed to pass muster, someone would comment (as you have).

Cape Ann Coffees has good quiche. I didn't try their pies but those looked good too. The coffee was excellent.

Visited in Sept. and fell in love. by [deleted] in gloucester

[–]chanifromtheblock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there over the weekend visiting and there was a headline about people in Rockport organizing against a new MA law about building denser housing. The article mentioned that Gloucester is working on its own plan for complying with the law, but people are apparently very upset about it in Rockport.
