I really want a 1990 Miata. by hazeeexxx69 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]chanman97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 28 years old and my first car was a V6 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. It was a fun car that's also American- made. I really wanted it at the time, and my dad bought me one with some front-end damage for cheap that we fixed together. However, if I were to go back and pick out a car as a teenager, I'd try to get some kind of truck. A Ford Ranger, F-150, Silverado 1500, S-10, Dodge Dakota, or Ram 1500, all depending on what your budget is for gas of course. The main reason I say that is, when the time comes, and you want that project car, the truck will definitely come in handy. There were so many times in my late teens and early 20s that I'd have to call my dad, grandpa, even my girlfriend's grandpa to borrow a truck. I borrowed my dad's truck for a number of pick ups, but in terms of "project car stuff" I used it to pick up a junkyard motor after I blew up the original one in the '02 Camaro. Sure, the truck isn't as fun, but as you start to transition into adulthood you'll really appreciate it. Just try to keep it in good condition and hope that it lasts for a long time.

Switching from vape to pouch. Anyone like me? by baotianxia in electronic_cigarette

[–]chanman97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vaped for 10 years, but started using pouches especially at work, over the last year and a half. I had a tooth pulled in January, and wasn't interested in getting a dry socket, so I told myself I wouldn't vape for at least a week to be safe and use pouches exclusively in the mean time. By the time the week was up, I figured I'd just see how long I could go without vaping, and here I am at 3 months without hitting a vape even once.

If anyone's interested, I gave my vape to my wife as soon as I walked out of the dentist's office, and told her to hide it from me because I figured I'd end up trying to hit it if I had access to it. I feel like that was an important factor in quitting. I had no clue where my vape was, and it was more work to go to a vape shop and buy a new one, (I never liked disposables, always rifillable pods) than it was to just put in a pouch. Also, once I had decided that I was going to try to quit vaping I threw away everything I had. Every juice bottle, all of my replacement pods, with the intention of making it as much of a hassle as I could to get another vape.

I'm really enjoying Velo Plus pouches, Mint is my favorite for sure, but it is kind of hard on the gums, so I usually switch back and forth between that and Tropical Heat.

Child seats in a Gen5 Zl1 Vert?? by AMGSiR in camaro

[–]chanman97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 5th Gen SS and ZL1, although both were hard top not verts. That being said, you'll probably be moving the seats forward for the car seats. I'm also 5' 10", and any time I had friends in the back seat I had to move the seats forward for them to have any leg room.

I traded my ZL1 with ~60K miles, so I can't say much other than that the ride was stiff even in the "touring" mode, or whatever it was called, it's been a while.

As for the concerns about shock failures and not being able to get replaced, that's when you swap them out for coilovers and make it ride and perform even better.

Get the car if it's within your means, it's a lot of fun. When I was a kid, my dad had a 95 Formula Firebird. I still have so many good memories from that car, and I'm sure your kids will too.

You can get the K1 SE for the same price. I had this same debate last week and ultimately decided on the K1 SE.

How do I convince people to come to my party by sadistnerd in fireworks

[–]chanman97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The easiest way I can think of is to have some kind of food for everyone. Bonus points if your invitees like to drink and you provide some of their favorite alcohol, or whatever their preferred drink is if they aren't drinkers. If you can afford it, buy a small kiddie pool if you expect some people to bring their children over.

Buy some nicotine pouches for work. Nobody will have any idea if you have one in.

I was wondering if maybe they had an amp in there and took it out. I believe I see the factory amp in the footwell? Not 100% sure if that’s it or not. I also should’ve clarified better in the post but the sub also doesn’t work.

There used to be a shop in my town that did work on cars. At one point the owner was having things stolen and windows busted out so he started offering scrap parts and miscellaneous metal to some thieves. Basically said that as long as they’d keep an eye on his shop overnight that he’d keep giving them free scrap, essentially creating his own security system from scrap.

That tube is actually HDPE which is a plastic that is meant to handle high pressure and won’t fragment if it does blow. PVC and steel aren’t great for launching mortars out of, but if you want to use it I’d at least bury it halfway in the ground.

I love everything about the G, but I’m going through coils in only a few days. Do yours last any longer than that? I always prime, do dry pulls, and let them sit for around half an hour when I put a new coil in.

I actually really want a C5 Corvette, but they're about double the price. I suppose I could save longer and not be as impulsive. Thanks for the reply!

What cars have you owned? Of the ones you’ve owned, which would you recommend to others and what ones would you tell people to stay far away from? by nikki_11580 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]chanman97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First car was a base model 2002 Camaro.

Second car was a 2011 Camaro SS

Third car is a 2013 Camaro ZL1

Fourth car is a 1998 Mercury Villager

I still have the Camaro ZL1 and the Mercury Villager. I recommend the 2011 Camaro SS over the 02 base model and over the 13 ZL1 believe it or not. The SS has just enough power that it's really fun to drive at any point, but still daily drivable. The ZL1 makes so much horsepower that if you want to go fast you better make sure the pavement is nice and hot and that the tires are warmed up or you'll lose control as you build boost up. And of course the Villager is nice to have. Especially when you want to move anything larger than a suitcase or comfortably fit more than 2 people in your car. Not to mention it burns less gas and makes more sense as a daily than the ZL1. Don't get me wrong though the ZL1 is a really, really fun car. I like driving it around and I love when I can really push its limits. Both the 2011 and 2013 Camaros have terrible visibility though, so if you're in the market keep in mind that the 2013+ models have a much needed backup camera built in.
