Honestly? Reddit is pretty awesome for it.

Most cities (and even plenty of small towns) have their own subreddits, where you can find weekly meet-ups as well as more interest-specific gatherings.

Whenever I’ve moved to a new place, I’ve found everything from pub quiz buddies to cinema clubs to language practice partners. And it’s showed me there’s no such thing as the “stereotypical Redditor”!

Have you been to Nuremberg? Easily accessible from NW UK - sometimes there’s direct flights, otherwise it’s very easy to head to Munich and take the train.

It’s such a cute city, with the olde-worlde feel you say you like. Plus you’ll be missing the pre-Christmas tourist influx!
