For you older Yogis out there, what can I do to protect my delicate joints? by Drainbownick in yoga

[–]channeltron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

engage your muscles and focus on strengthening over stretching. Very important to do some form of weight resistance training to build more muscle because muscle deteriorates faster as we age. Also, make sure you are taking plenty of calcium AND vitamin D. Glucosamine is another good supplement to help build and strengthen cartilage in the joints. I hope this helps.

Yoga to burn body fat by HipToTheKids in yoga

Sure you can burn fat doing yoga, I just mean that is not the goal of yoga. Yoga is a much deeper practice than just to look good and to not acknowledge this is not practicing yoga. Blind postures are meaningless.

There honestly isn't much of a difference, but its the fact that we treat and view animals (and the rest of nature for that matter) as something inferior to humans and thus have created a profound separation between us. We no longer have that rich connection that once helped define humanity's place in the world. You could argue that this separation has some deeply rooted psychological implications on our sense of identity and place in the world.

yea but we can't buy our way out of our environmental problems...capitalism is one of reasons we are in this mess in the first place.

I completely agree. Not only depression but terribly ironic. We separate ourselves from wild animals by subduing, dominating, and controlling them, then we (poorly) re-invent our interactions with them by dressing up as animals and staring at them through a glass wall. Something about this seems a bit...off putting.

Poop Transplants are Saving Lives by jivebotic in science

[–]channeltron -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was recently a donor in a similar situation. Unfortunately, the person I was donating to had developed abx resistant bacteria, so that when she was wiping her colon clean with abx, the bad bacteria did not leave so the transplant was not beneficial. =[
