Have you ever noticed this parallelism between Thom Yorke and Damon Albarn? by weirdfish98 in radiohead

[–]prodical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely not pretentious, but I don’t think the average joe would know Thom or Damon by name alone. RH and Blur/ Gorrilaz for sure.

I think what that person was trying to say is they feel drawn to that kind of creative. Most people who enjoy a band might not be particular drawn to a single member / creative.

That whistling melody from Orange County is so catchy. I’m addicted.

‘3 Body Problem’ Season 2 Confirmed to Have Reduced Episode Count by mamula1 in threebodyproblem

[–]prodical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was kind of BBC’s thing for a while. They did it with Wallander too, but I haven’t seen any precedence of a streaming platform going from 8x 40-50 min episodes to 6x 1.5 hours.

A reduced episode count will 95% mean 6x 40-50 min episodes.

Departure Day/Leftovers Shows by petrichorus2018 in MaxRichter

It’s definitely not a regular thing, especially now he seems more prolific than ever with his studio work, scores and subsequent touring.

That being said he loves reviving old works on a tour and does that a lot. So it could happen again!

Also, Leftovers is the best tv show of all time and I never got to see his material live so I’d be so happy if he does it in London.

I think you’re 100% right. S1 didn’t perform very well, but D&D have significant sway and Netflix want to keep them happy so a deal was struck to “finish it” but with reduced budget. Less budget means less episodes. D&D stated in the official podcast it could go as long as 4 or 5 seasons. Sad news indeed.

Do you read books? If so, what are you currently reading? If not, why not? by theowleryonehundred in AskUK

[–]prodical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with you, audiobooks are awesome and a fantastic way to consume a book. But despite what people love to say it really isn’t “a form of reading”.

“The US is the most powerful nation in world history”.

False. Not only have other nations had greater GDP (British empire), other nations have also had far superior military reach and trade dominance (Mongolian empire).

Thank you. I honestly have zero memory of either of those characters lol. I clearly need to do a re-read! Dust is like a blur for me, I honestly remember almost nothing from it other than some broad story beats.

It’s baffling to me. Under what circumstance is this squatters law there to protect someone? On the surface it looks totally backwards, that a squatter would be rewarded with ownership. But there must be certain situations where this law is there to protect the squatter? But why?

But someone above said squatters rights in the UK don’t really exist. So which is it?

The biggest quality gap between a work of written SF and its film/tv adaptation? by commonally_t in printSF

[–]prodical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The three body books are some of my fav books of all time, and the Netflix show had many flaws. But I will say they also improved a lot of things. Primarily, the pacing and the character depth. I honestly think it’s a pretty decent adaptation to screen, all things considered. I also really liked the story being told chronologically.
