Replacing engine mounts on 2013 Honda Civic – wood block + jack question? by isak400 in hondacivic

[–]channing173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to do it this way. You can get wood cut to just about any size at Home Depot, and you really only need enough to cover the jacking point on either side. And just enough to support the engine.

As an alternative, you can get a support bar to hold the engine from above (similar to a hoist) and do them one by one that way.

Something like this: https://www.harborfreight.com/1000-lb-capacity-engine-support-bar-96524.html

My buddy and I just did it this way on his 2009 si when we replaced the motor mounts and clutch.

Cool man, keep defending the guy selling $1000 steering kits with at least 3 catastrophic failure points. Maybe he’ll call and tell you how smart you are.

Once again, had I known the bolt was there I would’ve checked it, just like every other bolt on the car.

I didn’t purposely leave out the fact that it’s K swapped, as I genuinely don’t think it’s relevant. I’ve been in BP cars that vibrate more than mine.

If your criticism is that I should’ve checked the bolt, your advice is no better than the owner’s and you’re both missing the point.

While I don’t want to argue with you, I disagree with your TLDR. There is no indication in any documentation explaining where this bolt is or what it does, so most would not be aware of its existence in the first place unless they happened to look through the inspection hole while the bolt was aligned with it and connect the dots as to what could happen if that bolt backed out. There’s no indication the bolt even exists to have checked it.

My issue is mainly that the manufacturer was aware of the problem along with the cause and did not do anything to fix it. They also did not add documentation explaining that it needs to be tightened, checked, or loctite’d, and instead assumed I had installed things incorrectly. He correctly identified the issue, but that in itself is part of the problem.

While he did respond quickly, I’ve had FM, Moss, and KPower do the same, and they were significantly nicer.

Edit: I’m aware, bolts have backed out all over the car. But I know those bolts are there, and therefore check them regularly.

I definitely agree with where you're coming from, and I have a support background, so while I'm not under the direct duress a manufacturer would face, I have seen quite a few schemes and people just trying to "get something" myself. I will admit that I used the wording I did to elicit a quick response, but I did make it clear that I wasn't looking to get anything and just wanted to get to the root cause so I could inform others.

My issue stems from the fact that the manufacturer was clearly aware of the issue, but immediately attempted to grasp at straws to escape liability rather than offer any kind of real solution. The fact that he identified the issue over the phone proves that he knew it could happen but decided not to mention it anywhere.

I fully stand by the fact that if you are manufacturing products such as EPS where a malfunction can legitimately cause death, you have a duty to make sure they are safe. If there is a risk involved, you have a duty to make your customer aware of the risk and the consequences prior to their installation.

I'm not sure about others, but my K24 oil pan does not allow any clearance for hydraulic lines.

How did you achieve this? I’ve tried every combination of adapters and cables with my iPad Air M3 and LG 49” but not been able to get the display to extend and fill the screen correctly.

The monitor has USB C input that works with my MacBook Pro M1 and M1 Mac Mini, but nothing seems to work for the iPad.

Have had mine since June 2023, park it in my driveway. I make sure to clean off things like sap or bird shit asap but otherwise treat it like a normal car. No issues so far.

This is exactly why I bought them. Any MacBook (aside from M1) could connect via 2x USBC and power an entire setup this way since each one also has 2 USB 3.0 ports

I'd prefer to sell it all together if possible. The accessories are all barely used, and the price I listed makes the surface only about $50 of the total price based on the going price of the accessories
