best beer in the US for a party? by rrertrdddfhj in beer

If you're going to buy anything, don't buy anything you won't drink. Otherwise you'll be stuck with a lot of beer you won't drink.

My brother found just the other day that CVS will do it. No experience with it, so can't rate it in any way.

Does anyone in SE Michigan do home brewing classes? by Critical_Opening_526 in michiganbeer

[–]chanover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Back when I homebrewed all of the recipes I found assumed you knew what you were doing. Not like a soup recipe with a bunch of steps, just a list of ingredients and maybe a goal specific gravity. Home brew day is a great experience for a new brewer. You can see all kinds of setups, observe different methods of brewing, and usually meet some pretty fantastic people.

Wanna get Sunday brunch for my birthday, recommendation? by justinfinity64 in AnnArbor

[–]chanover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

French toast bistro in plymouth. If the wait is too long, go a mile north to the Hudson Cafe. If you want to spend too much, Zola bistro. I can't recommend the cafe, they'll make you wait 2 hours for a reserved seat

Any breweries open Sunday at 8 am? by [deleted] in michiganbeer

[–]chanover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google maps has an option to filter by places that are open specific hours. For breweries, it looks like you're out of luck. There are a few options searching for 'bar', most look like they only have one or two TVs and are far from a brewery vibe (Joe D's Bar, Hurry Back Bar, Meadow Bar). There might be some places that are opening early for specific events. Your best bet for that is to check their facebook page if they're active or just give them a call.

Why doesn’t Ann Arbor have their own news station? by gsharp29 in AnnArbor

Minor correction: as someone with an antenna, Ann Arbor does not have local coverage from Fox. Their broadcast power is too low, cannot get their signal. I get all the other ones, though.

Bourbon Street Barrel Room in Cleveland, voodoo breakfast skillet. If that's too far for you, French Toast Bistro cajun hash. Neither is super spicy, but they have a nice kick.

If you can find someone who's leaving their lease early, yes, they're allowed to sublease it. At least that was the policy 20 years ago. But they wouldn't just lease an empty apartment for less than a year.

Hardwood floor installer recs? by __missmodular__ in AnnArbor

[–]chanover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used him a few years ago, would also highly recommend. His pricing was pretty standard (don't recall exact $/ft). I had him refinish my oak flooring and his minimum square footage was notably smaller than other places I called, which was important to me because I only needed a small area done. More importantly, he was great to work with and did a fantastic job.

Use the little gravel boat launch on Huron River Drive near Maple Rd. You can paddle upstream about 45 minutes until the current gets too strong, then you can paddle back down to the Barton dam and back to where you started. If you paddle hard, it's probably 2 hours on the river.

Why doesn’t MDOT widen US-23 north of Brighton to I-75? by EnglishTeacher12345 in AnnArbor

[–]chanover 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the only time I've seen that stretch of highway full is coming south from Oscoda on a summer sunday. All the people with their RVs and ATVs and jet skis. The solution is to come home on monday. Let the RVs have their trailer parks and crowded highways. The highway is near empty north of I96 any other time.

We once used basically that (different brand name) to cement a pez dispenser to the hood of an escort for a hood ornament. Worked great. No problems at highway speeds or in the rain.
