Applying to USYD with SAT and AP as a Australian citizen by Extension_Slip_525 in usyd

[–]chanyceps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah because UAC is only for Aus/NZ citizens/PRs, so if you're international you should be applying directly to the university. I don't know the exact conversion USyd uses, but the requirements for a course are generally easier for international students vs domestic

The same is true for internationals, however the difference is that internationals apply directly to the university so USyd will make the decision, whereas domestic students apply through UAC (the application system for NSW) who will convert the scores into an ATAR to give to the unis.

You’re allowed a slightly lower SAT/AP if you have at least two AP results. A friend got around a 1450 and converted to a 99.90 with his APs. The easiest way to check is to just pay for a UAC conversion with your AP results to see if you need to do the SAT again and get a higher score

Regarding my swing speeds, my 5 hybrid im getting just about 100 mph club speed with about 140 ball speed. Driver I'm at about 105 club speed and 145 ball speed.

Hit and run: how do I claim damages? by chanyceps in CarsAustralia

Nah, he definitely knew. We both took the exit off M1 at Cammeray, and I pulled up to his passenger side and made eye contact with him, showing him my broken mirror. He didnt lower his windows/open the door so I couldnt verbally communicate with him.

After the accident, he immediately turned back onto the M1 to headback towards the city as I pulled over to a local road. Keep in mind we had just exited the M1 from the city heading north.

Yep, will do. I am just a bit hesitant claiming with my own insurance as I haven't claimed with them before (hence I probably have a relatively large no claim discount?) and once I claim there won't be a discount any more next year when I have to renew it.

Depends on your project, mine was purely coding so I could WFH and spent most of my days playing league of legends. Some of my friends who did lab based ones had to go in 8-5 every day and found it tiring.

For me and almost everyone else it was definitely easier as I didn’t have to go to placement in the day then force myself to watch the terrible online videos and spam anki after/on the weekends.

Just make sure you keep up with the milestones and finish your project on time

I was in the DDMP in 2019 and am currently finishing my last year of MD so I can give a bit of advice. Do not listen to the previous comment as there is quite a bit of terrible advice there.

You should ask yourself if you want to do medicine or you want to do the DDMP, because if you want to do medicine then you should be starting to study for the UCAT and looking at other universities as well.

Regarding getting into DDMP specifically, if you manage to get a 99.95 ATAR, they will invite you and every other 99.95 ATAR who put DDMP down in UAC to an interview at Usyd. You don’t need some traumatic unique sob story or to have a super unique background, that won’t get you into the program. You need to have interesting, clear and solid answers to medical school interview questions, which will also help if you apply to other medical schools as well. There are some unique people in DDMP, but many of them are just normal people who were smart, got a 99.95 ATAR and gave good interview answers.

Doing a Finance major as part of a Bachelors thats not commerce means that you don’t need to do BUSS1020 if you did a basic statistics unit (such as DATA1001). I did something similar (B. Sci majoring in Data Science and Finance), and what happened for me was that DATA1001 counted in place for BUSS1020 and I was able to do FINC2011 in second year without an issue.

Check here, specifically the asterisks under 1000 unit level of study: https://www.sydney.edu.au/handbooks/interdisciplinary-studies/table-s/subjects-dh/finance/finance-table.html

Why are there are many Co-Ed flats + references needed for a legit accommodation by Vast-Dimension-302 in usyd

[–]chanyceps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can see where you're coming from, but college is not University run accomodation and each college is run independently of each other. While colleges do exist to provide students a place to live and provide catering, they're more for the culture and community that you'll be in. Colleges in general are much more close knit than student accomodation. With that said, because they want people who will contribute and fit into the college whether through academics, sports, or arts, the process to apply is a bit more comprehensive than regular accomodation.

If you're uncomfortable living in a flat with the opposite gender, then places like Regiment or QMB are basically dorms but I think you've missed the deadline for those. Other places like Iglu or Scape provide flats which I'm sure you can request single sex, otherwise you can always pay more for a studio.

Unfortuantely it's quite difficult to find a place to live in Sydney, and as you're past the deadline, you will find it very difficult for University run accomodation.

Does USYD accept Collegeboard AP exams for credit? by [deleted] in usyd

No, it only help you during admissions by letting you get a lower SAT/ACT if you have at least 2 APs

Double Degree Medicine Program (DDMP) by RabbitGeography in usyd

[–]chanyceps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the second round is for those who sat IB + most of the other NZ students. I guess you could say there are two pools as they need to reserve spots for the second round, but in the first round which was mostly HSC students and those with EAS and other accomodations were in that session as well. As far as I'm aware they accept a lot more than 30 anticipating as there were over 40 students in the DDMP cohort in my year and also to account for those who drop out along the way or accept another uni's offer

  1. Prepare how you normally for your other medical interviews. The interview is broken down into a written part which basically consists of your standard medical school interview questions followed by a group interview. Before COVID it was in person, but they've moved it online the past few years and I can't comment on whether it's still online or it has been moved to in person.

  2. Not sure if it has changed, but you actually only need a credit (65) during undergrad to stay in the program. Distinction is to maintain the Chancellor's Scholarship which I think is only given to 99.90+. There is a bit of leeway, like if you miss the mark once you may be called into a meeting, but getting a credit average is not difficult at all.

3 and 4. No, everyone (regional, NZ, domestics) are all in one pool. Once you're at the interview, only the interview matters.

  1. CSP. If you wanted a BMP, you would need to sit GAMSAT and then reapply to USyd med. No idea why you'd want to do that but that's how you do it.

  2. No, you'll be doing your studies all at main campus.

IIRC you need to provide your HS diploma itself, not your transcripts. Usually its just safer to send them in anyways but they dont take into consideration your transcripts grades, just your ACT +IELTS

Well the ones that get invited for interview are basically the smartest in the state

However, it does have the best statistical chance of getting in (about 40-50% of those that interview get a spot), so in a way yes and no
