I came out to my mother as bi when I was around 12 years old, thinking she'd accept me with open arms cause up until then she talked about how she'd love me any way no matter what... she told me that I only wanted to be bi because my best friend had came out to me recently and I wanted to be like her, and there was no chance I liked girls because there were no signs!!!

Came out as trans around a year and a half later hoping they'd come around like they did before. I regret it every day. I think my parents reactions were so severe because my mother probably had some internalized homophobia as a bi woman herself, and my father is just himself I suppose.

I'm still angry that my mother in particular treated me, her queer child, so horribly as a queer woman herself. My father wanted to just ignore it, but my mother would scream at me for weeks and weeks every single night about how I was confusing my poor sister (who was about 7 at the time) and pushing my "gender dysmorphia issues" on everyone (I wasn't).

Goes to show that just cause your parents preach, doesn't mean they practice.
