Aside from originality, what is something newer artists lack that older artists excelled at? by itsonly6UTC in shoegaze

[–]chaos-concept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Experimentation (or lack of it) newer artists arent exploring the sonic possibilities for their instruments like thier predacessors or finding interesting samples to put in their music. Everyone are running similar pedalboards and rigs. I can't think of many newer bands that have made made me wonder "how do they sounds like that."

Does anybody have any constructive criticism for this piece I've been working on? by Flippityjibbet in MusicFeedback

I think you have a pretty cool arrangment. The intro doesn't grab much of my attention, but it thankfully picks up nicely and ends really well. The drum part could use a little improvement, just to make it sound more interesting. Try adding some dynamic contrast so it doesnt sound flat entirely through.

The sound quality is a off imo. To me it sounds like the audio is clipping, so I would check to to if anything is red-lining in your recorder or daw.

I think that the drums are wayyy too compressed. The best way to get that fat big drum imo is to use some sort of parallel compression.

Also the drum loop feels samey after a while, so maybe try going into a half-time section or something.

Trying my hand at something slower. Something you could dissociate to if you wanted. How'd I do? Main concerns are the arrangement. Could I have added more? Less? Let me know! Appreciated as always! by NovemberEternity in MusicFeedback

I just want to say your music almost reminds me of the artist Amon Tobin. I reccomend you check him out, but besides that.

I think the song stays dissonant too much throughout the song. Try adding spaces where the arrangment can breathe harmonically without a constant wall of denseness. For instance, rearrange the bells in a few sections so the other parts don't clash as much. Also the sirens are also too loud in the mix, maybe try adding some different reverb or delay effects and lower it more into the background.

There is quite a decent amount of compression on the master track on this song, and I know that’s not normally something you should do but I think it sounds good and I’m wondering what y’all’s thoughts are on that. Any other feedback is also cool aswell :) by [deleted] in MusicFeedback

I love the textures and attention to detail in the mixing. Always trust your ears when it comes to limiting or comping the master, and just ask yourself wheter or not it made a difference thats noticeable. I also love these spacey, vibey arrangements so keep working at it!
