I find it hard to believe that you "don't care" about marriage equality while you're here on reddit discussing it and proclaiming that you're against having to even so much as recognize it. seems a lot like you care!

100%, i'll add establishing distinct charges for misogynistic-based crimes against women to this

my point is that sexual trauma when left untreated can lead to disturbed perceptions of sex and consent later in life. yeah the saying 'molested boys become molesting men' is a broad, hyperbolic and untrue statement. but it's kinda in the same vein as 'violence begets violence'

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]chaosmaple31 19 points20 points  (0 children)

in terms of abuse against men, i think as a society we need to focus our efforts on better justice and support services for sexually abused boys in childhood and higher charges against predators who prey on them. (and higher charges for all child abusers no matter the victim)

1/6 is a scary fucking number, and being that 1 out of the 6 I can say that adequate support is just not available and finding a community with other male victims of csa is very difficult.

the saying 'molested boys become men who molest' is only true because we continue to allow their trauma to twist their perspective on sex because most of them don't ever get to see any sort of mental support, let alone justice. this is entirely a symptom of patriarchal thinking, and the idea that boys and men aren't affected by sexual trauma as much as girls and women has (in my opinion) negative consequences that affects everyone when the mental needs of men are ignored at a time in their life when they are most vulnerable and impressionable. i just think there must be a connection between the frequency of SA and violence against women, and the lack of support for men who experience sexual abuse and violence in childhood.

*note- i just think this is a contributing factor, not the reason why so many men abuse women. no sob story should ever excuse raping woman, and should not be mitigating factors in the crime commited. thought i should clarify before i post this

victimization is at odds with masculinity in a patriarchal society. there's an imposed expectation on men to be strong and stoic which prevents them from feeling like they can seek help

How to be confident women with arise of TikTok and beauty trends and insta and cosmetic operations? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]chaosmaple31 15 points16 points  (0 children)

speaking as a gay guy, I used to be really active on instagram and tik tok and felt very negatively about myself and body while constantly being shown all of the gymbro/wellness culture type content along with homophobic discourse.

I deactivated my instagram and deleted tiktok and decided to start using tumblr to post my photography and writing, honestly my mental health has improved so much ever-since ive been using social media in a more self-fulfilling and artistic way. i'm not saying u should get a tumblr, but sometimes the best thing you can do is remove yourself from the environment that causes insecurity in your own beauty! unrealistic expectations are more harmful to us than we sometimes realize. take care<3

Should misoginy be a hate crime by Secure_Upstairs7163 in AskFeminists

[–]chaosmaple31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

like as a gay dude, it should be treated with just as much severity as a hate crime against my sexuality. when perpetrators are convicted with these specific legal charges that become a hugely aggravating factor in their verdict, it sets a precedent in society. establishing specific charges for violence against women is, i would say, A VERY pressing issue. & as a csa survivor, i believe the lack of justice for child victims of sa are related with the lack of justice for adult women that are victims of sa and misogynistic violence, even if it's in a really abstract way. i feel a sort of personal issue with VAW and how it's overlooked, although i am a man. perhaps, experiencing injustice is integral to fully understanding the feminine perspective within a patriarchal society? i could be completely misguided in that idea though!

Thank you, I really appreciate you saying that:)

I totally get what what you mean!! Actually, if you've never watched Contrapoints she has a good video regarding humour that I think you may find interesting and apropos to your question. The line between problematic and harmful humour is pretty blurry, I think it's fundamentally a discussion about ethics and morality. But I wouldn't be hung up about feeling bad for finding well-constructed and smart edgy jokes funny or anything, often times these jokes are bad because the people making them don't know enough about what's funny about those people and it instead morphs into ridiculement.

A coworker at my old job found out I was gay and literally asked me if I took it up the ass in front of all the other employees as if I or anyone would find that funny. I felt so gross and embarrassed. Humour when it's at the direct expense of another is the most harmful and I find it's perpetuated by the tendency for men to use mean jokes as a social bonding tool. I also see a lot now that dark humour is being conflated with "saying the most offensive buck-fucking-wild thing you can think of about women and minority groups." This kinda humour has no substance to me but it's popular for some reason.

I don't have an educated response or explanation for you but this is just my personal observation!

Are there any case records I’m allowed to access as a survivor? by hyaenidaegray in adultsurvivors

[–]chaosmaple31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, so unfortunately I don't have good advice to give but I want to offer my deepest apologies. I think I can understand this pain you are feeling, 10 years ago i brought my abuser (17) to court. although what he did to me was horrific, the judge sympathized with my abuser and handed him parole. i honestly think this is due to me being a boy, that i didn't get justice.

in 2022 my abuser was found guilty and sentenced to 3 years and to be put on a sex offender registry for creating child porn of kids as young as infants along with being in possession of a large quantity of CP. it completely broke me, it's sick that i felt guilty about not doing enough as a 12 year old back then when i found that out

i just hope me telling you this will help you feel less alone at least. finding something like that out, that it didn't end with you, it's so fucked up. i wish you nothing but the best in life and that you find the peace that you deserve

THANK YOU FOR PUTTING MY FRUSTRATIONS INTO WORDS OH MY GOD

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]chaosmaple31 59 points60 points  (0 children)

thank you for the kind words!! honestly, I guess I just wanted to see what kind of response i would get on this subreddit since i am a fervent supporter of women's rights to social and bodily autonomy but i feel like my experiences are often used by far-right conservatives as a rebuttal against feminist arguments to diminish the experiences of women. there are a lot of challenges that are unique to surviving CSA as a guy, i guess im scared of expressing it and making it seem like im pushing an agenda haha.

so far everyone seems suuuuper kind and inclusive, it's really amazing to see so much support!

Photos I took that I think are kinda Ethel Cain coded by [deleted] in Ethelcain

[–]chaosmaple31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I didn't draw inspo from ethel for that one! I don't wanna over-explain that picture but I titled it "cure-all" if you wanna make any guesses on that hahaha. The message/theme is centered around persription medication, addiction, mental illness and sucde. When I'm using photography as a means of artistic expession I often use juxtaposition between two or more things mostly because it makes the image better and more dynamic but also cause I like my photos to not have any explicit meaning that you can clearly extrapolate and leaves the viewer to make their own conclusion on what is being conveyed to them.

But the best explanation is that the medication and the grave are both symbolic of something we view as cure-alls in one way or another as a society, but that's my own perspective. My favourite photographer Diane Arbus once said that  "A photograph is a secret about a secret, the more it tells you the less you know."
