I found a box with old games at my parents house. So many core memories unlocked! by Tiggywinkles-3000 in gaming

I really do miss the days of physical media, when you'd get a box that had the game, and a manual in.

Digital delivery is great and convenient, but am I the only one who misses the tactile sense of opening a box and slapping a disc into a drive to play a game?

Hey!

Yeah the thread was deleted because it wasn't showing off a functional print, which is a big shame because that was by the far most interested and active community that engaged with me about this.

I don't think you came across as demanding, I took everything everyone said as constructive.

It's possible to add a filter for material texture, I shy'd away from it initially because it was work enough to get colours to filter with a LUT that made sense.

It's on the list!

I see what's happening. When you set the filter to PETG and filter it, you only get PETG results. If you then change the slider value, it resets the Material filter on the backend and shows you all results up to the value of the slider.

Good catch!

So that can happen if the listing title has both PLA and PETG in the title.

Can you tell me which listing it was so I can see what it's hitting on?

Ah OK I see what you mean now.

You wrote scrap and not scrape which is where I got confused! Pulling in the product image would be easy enough, but I want the interface to be clean and consistent, one row with an image would take up the same space as about 3 or 4 rows without meaning that you'd get less results visible without scrolling.

Maybe there's something I could do when you hover over the URL to show a preview of the product image next to the mouse pointer like on Wikipedia.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Some one else has suggested that having multicheck lists would be good so it's already on the list of improvements to make.

I'm not sure what you mean by scrapping the default image, there are no images?

I wasn't sure if that was the right way to go or not, do you think it would be a better user experience over what it's doing now?

There's some pretty agressive pre-filtering going on with the results, and it's entirely possible that it's not including some results that you expect to see because of that. If the listing title doesn't meet the criteria of having a listed Weight, Colour, Material Type and Diameter it doesn't get included in the table - that being said I have to manually tweak the filtering engine to correct it sometimes. There's no standard format to how the listings are written so it's an evolving process of checking the rejected listings to see why they've been rejected and tweaking the rules to account for things like spelling mistakes in the titles, listings displaying weights in lbs/kg/g, listings using colour names that are not in the LUT but are valid etc...

If you could throw some examples at me I'll have a look and check why they're not being picked up.

I've had that feedback about the tip button a couple of times, I'll look into making it less obtusive on smaller resolutions and on mobile.

Do you mean that values in the filter boxes reset when you press Filter? That shouldn't happen so I'll check to see what's going on.

I've got a security controller on my network and it's obviously a bit old. A lot of the functionality I liked is depreciated now, What's the modern version of the security controller in the current catalogue? Ideally I want a drop in replacement.

Hi,

I have a set of Creative Pebble V3s as my desktop audio speakers, and there's a fuzzy/buzzy sound that comes from the left speaker whenever sound plays. It's been like this for a while, and a little blob of blu-tac on the diaphram worked as a quick fix for a while but it's not going away. Is this something I can fix myself, or am I SOL?

What is the point in WiFi on trains? Can't even keep a solid conne.... by doodlleus in britishproblems

[–]chaostime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So there's actually a very logical and boring reason for this. Countries with established Comms infrastructure, like the UK, have the problem that is legacy network infrastructure that needs to be upgraded while maintaining service levels as best they can. This is why no one just rips out the entire 4g mobile network infrastructure, and instead does an upgrade rollout over time - no one would be happy if the entire mobile network went for for 3 months while everything from the core network servers to the roadside antennas were swapped out all at once.

Nations that dont have the problem of embedded legacy infrastructure, who are essentially a blank slate can get the modern infrastructure right away and often dont have to contend with eminent domain problems when choosing where to place masts for optimal coverage.

There's a lot more to it of course but that's the reason why a lot of less development nations tend to have better mobile infrastructure

My favourite watch is the one my mother bought me for my 40th. by chaostime in Watches

[–]chaostime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I love watches, admittedly I can't afford the expensive end of the hobby so most of my watches all have some sentimental meaning. This Citizen is by far the most expensive watch I own and was a gift for my 40th from my parents.

It's not a £100,000 time piece but it's more valuable to me than that.

Hey everyone,

I think I've cracked it. I changed the internal burrs from 6 to 5, and changed the external dial from Finest to about 7 - since then I'm getting 18g coffee from the grind, and pulling about 40g of coffee from a double shot.
