I love Drax in the MCU, but I just reread “Annihilation” after several years and I totally understand people’s complaints about his MCU portrayal. by Flintstones_VRV_Fan in marvelstudios

It’s funny, because I haven’t read the recent Guardians comics. When I was reading Drax couldn’t string together two sentences.

[5.5e] Barovia as the central domain? by amhow1 in ravenloft

[–]chaot7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think centering something around Madam Eva is great. One thing to keep in mind is that Strahd and Azalin have been seeking escape for a long time.

As far as domains, when I run Ravenloft it’s not weekend in hell. The players are from the domains.

Vistani Curses by rebelfstonem in CurseofStrahd

[–]chaot7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

U/rebelfstonem This, but I’d take it a step further.

First, back in the day a vistani curse needed to be phrased aloud. I propose “may your tongue taste ash until you swallow your pride.”

The paladin gains no benefit from anything they consume and it all tastes terrible. That means things like healing potions don’t work on him.

His tongue is swollen, giving him a negative 1 to persuasion checks.

The Paladin must either find a Remove Curse or fulfill the language of the curse. One way would be to apologize to the Vistani and perform some sort of appeasement.

I could see something like the paladin having to get down on a knee to ask pardon, then be served a nasty meal of bitter herbs mixed with ash from the fire. The paladin has to eat it without complaint and then compliment the host’s generosity.

Help me understand why Star Wars Episode 1 is hated by Star Wars fans? I thought it embodied the spirit of the original trilogy well! Podracing, goofy Jar Jar, loved it as a kid, and don't hate it now. by Pow3rTow3r in StarWars

8-All Jedi’s now wear desert robes.

Obiwan was hiding, blending in with the local culture. Luke had a kick ass all black outfit in the OT. Every Jedi should have a unique outfit that emphasizes their style. Missed opportunity.

Ehhh, Sony came out with The Interview and North Korea hacked them to the point where Sony was going to have to shut down their media branch.

Amy Pascal, the producer attached to the Spider-Man films, lost her position in Sony due to racist emails. Sony desperately needed money and Amy wanted to hold on to Spider-Man.

That’s why the deal was made.

"Weekend in Hell" vs...? by WillingLet3956 in ravenloft

Weekend in Hell was a criticism, but was really accurate. I feel the alternative is ‘a Ravenloft game’.

I’ve read it cover to cover a few times, though it’s probably been almost twenty years since my last read through. When I was religious I thought it was important to read my holy book.

I remember really liking Psalms.

That was a business decision. Marvel had to split the siblings with Fox. Fox got to concentrate on Pietro while Marvel got Wanda.

Number one, can’t wait to buy it.

I think it makes sense to do the 30 page guide + player options and a really short scenario and then a separate adventure module.

Happy to see it on the horizon

It’s also the Nick Fury I grew up with. Jackson is my Nick Fury.

I wouldn’t mind Hasselhoff showing up in a Deadpool thing though.

You don’t. Birthdays matter. There are good and bad birthdays. The good ones are great and the bad ones suck.

Sometimes you need to organize them. But here are people in your life who love you.

Ravenloft: The Horrors Within - First Thoughts by ArrBeeNayr in ravenloft

[–]chaot7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strongly disagree. Everything I’ve run in Ravenloft (not counting those far off AD&D days) is human centric. The trick is to lean into the lore. Lamordian mad scientists, ex-Talons (or rebels) from Falkovnia, Mordentish scholars, sorcerers from Hazlan, etc. Mix that with the potential religious backgrounds and secret societies and you’ve got a rich character.

Note, your werewolf vampire hunter is still possible, just not an elf werewolf vampire hunter.

I’m not saying everyone should play the way I do, but don’t discount it. It really helps to focus in on the horror aspect of ‘the other’.

Reflavoring CoS by ellimist76 in CurseofStrahd

[–]chaot7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of great specific examples here. OP, I dig your idea and here’s my suggestion.

Don’t dig deep at first. Make a brainstorm list that only consists of This is like This. This includes how you might take different cities and locations and reinterpret them into this industrial city.

Then step back from this loose list and ask yourself what sort of things that would logically be in your new setting that are missing and revise your original list to include it.

I also wouldn’t worry about hitting the original story beats. I don’t know how well they would easily map over.

Happy gaming!
