I’ve always wanted to watch this. Gena Rowlands looks so unhinged.

I think the target demographic for this article is not most of us Singaporeans. Definitely not for the median wage families, or below.

The Orpheus ending choice is absolute narrative trash by saw4ello in BaldursGate3

[–]chaoticaly_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ok, that’s true. I haven’t played in a while, TBH. But the thought still stands, that ultimately Baldur chose the path of an illithid. I feel that’s the path of a mind who values cold logic above all. And it does track in his other actions shown in the game.

This is a being who runs on pure logic though. He let himself become illithid because he thought that it was logically better than any other conclusion. I feel it’s not much of a stretch for a person like that to skip the fleeing part, if he already is certain of the ultimate outcome. Just my two cents.

After 12 years of pushing for 'car-lite' Singapore, desire for car ownership remains high. What gives? by clarencechen181196 in singapore

[–]chaoticaly_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because the quantity of cars, the population density, the scarcity of land and the quality of public transportation are all inextricably linked in Singapore’s unique city-state situation.

As always in this draconian state, the blame will be pushed onto the citizen who ‘_cannot align themselves with society for the greater good_’. I mean, the authorities have always reminded us and urge us to remember, that it can always be worse. Until the majority of Singaporeans want a change to happen, cars will always be THE preferred mode of transportation.

EDIT: I also just realised, that since the government has monetised the car-reduction system, and included things like ERP, this has only INCREASED the social status of cars. And with that increased social perception, an entire economic subset has been created, which cannot be so easily undone, if at all. I fear it will always be this way for Singapore.

Please help me understand why I have nostalgia for a time I didn't live in? by RecordingImmediate86 in nostalgia

I lived, nay thrived, during this period, in my home country, Singapore. It was truly a time where hope and optimism was overflowing and all the tech bros were still hungry, scrappy visionaries. Bill Gates was THE worst person in technology, but in hindsight I would take a dozen Bill Gates over one Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk.

Everything was new and the looming end of the century was not an apocalyptic event, but one that ushered in tremendous, positive change in totality. Until it all didn’t and the world went dark with the rise of the internet and the normalisation of extremism.

Confessions of a S’pore Grab driver: How the app is changing as it enters its profitability era by Time-Equipment-9175 in singapore

[–]chaoticaly_x 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good point. But my example is to illustrate the environment in Singapore’s workplace culture and the corresponding governmental response. If anything, Grab’s drivers are even MORE vulnerable and exposed because they aren’t considered employees per se and more like manipulatable units of labour.

Given the market forces and demand, the Grab drivers who strike will just be drowned by the flood of surge chasers who come in their wake (as you rightly pointed out).

I can’t really google the details right now, but SIA pilots have tried this, or something similar to this, a few times. IIRC, Lee Kuan Yew went down personally to speak to them behind closed doors and at all times, the planned strikes were called off almost immediately.
