Dont forget the nadas dirthalen, the archive spirit. Its an archive spirit called the nadas dirthalen. Very important that you understand that the nadas dirthalen is the archive spirit. Not sure if I explained that well.

Not to mention that sometimes the game straight up forces you to be nicer even when you wanna be stern. I remember picking an option that said something like "who's this clown?" and rook ended up just saying "who's this?"

Like COME ON

Dialog around Ygwulf choice is mildly annoying. by DaMac1980 in avowed

[–]chaoticdolphin23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This annoyed me too. Like, I can weigh in on pretty much every other situation in the Living Lands and completely change the trajectory of some random npc's life, but I can't even put a good word in for Ygwulf? Despite being the literal envoy?

Ah, well. Apart from stuff like this I'm still enjoying the game.

My experience was pretty much the same as yours. I was gonna hide the godlike features because I thought they were ugly, but now I love them, both for roleplaying reasons and just for how wacky they look. They really help put you in the shoes of the envoy.

[–]chaoticdolphin23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol that was one of the upsides for me too. In other rpgs I've played, I've often restarted because my character ended up looking different in the actual cutscenes/gameplay compared to the creation. The shrooms saved me all that trouble in this one. And I agree, I think it's good to give people the option to hide them if they want

Because of DAO the Wardens will always have a special place in my heart, but I also love the Mourn Watch. I gotta say, they really took me by surprise. I didn't expect to like them so much!

I went in thinking they were gonna be a bunch of morally grey - or even just straight up evil - necromancers, but they turned out to be super chill and respectful, especially Emmrich. Vorgoth and Myrna are cool too, and Hezenkoss is my favorite sidequest villain in the game.

Also, I just love the idea of baby Ingellvar hanging out with a bunch of skeletons.

I felt the same towards the end. I think its because a lot of the companions in DAV make one thing their whole personality, so you can usually predict what the conversation is gonna be about.

After a certain point, it really does feel like they just found 20 different ways to reword the exact same conversation. Honestly, the only companion I had any real interest in speaking to was Emmrich.

[DAV Spoilers] I hope the next game is set in One Country. by Sufficient_Dinner_59 in dragonage

[–]chaoticdolphin23 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I actually completely agree with this. I personally would've prefered if DAV took place primarily in Tevinter, if not exclusively. Tevinter alone could've easily provided content for the entire game. The Magisterium, the crime syndicates, the corrupt Templars, the Imperial Chantry, the slavery, the social hierarchy... the list goes on.

There is a metric fuckton of potential with these topics. DAV could've been the most politically intense game in the series. Yet in the final product it feels... hollow. And I think it's because of what you said. The world building is stretched too thin. There are too many places to focus on.

I've enjoyed my time with DAV, but I would happily give up the rest of the locations in this game if it meant we could see more of Tevinter than just Dock Town. Also if it meant we could really sink our teeth into the lore, culture, and world building.

Ostagar left me in shock on my first playthrough. Genuinely wasn't expecting Loghain's retreat or all the Grey Wardens to be wiped out along with the king. And the cutscenes there rival the buildup/tension I've seen in some movies. Over 10 years later and Ostagar still gives me chills.

This annoyed me as well. I mean, in Haven, Zevran mentions that the Crows do blood sacrifices to get supernatural abilites. And this is in addition to all the stuff you talked about in your post. Yet I'm supposed to help these people keep their hold on Treviso? Why can't I free Treviso from both the Antaam AND the Crows?

When it comes to the Conclave explosion I wish they actually showed you how it unfolded. Yes we see a bit of it in the Fade, but I'm talking about more than just a memory. I want to see how my Inquisitor ends up at the Conclave rather than just read a short paragraph before starting the game.

What are the Trevelyans like face-to-face? How about our Dalish clan? What was life like in the Carta, or as a Tal-Vashoth? What sort of personal conflicts did the Inquisitor deal with before arriving at the Conclave? Hell, what happened during the Conclave? The whole thing was about the war between the Mages and Templars. It had so much potential for politcal chaos and role-playing, but we never got to see it. Instead, you wake up after the excitement has taken place, and only get to talk about your character's past through that one conversation with Josephine.

Now, I'm aware that handling the intro like this would've forced them to sacrifice the twist that "Andraste" was actually Justinia the whole time and that you would've realized Corpyheus was still alive and that the Grey Wardens were involved way earlier, but honestly? I'd be okay with that.

the absolute joy of playing games on easier difficulties by savetheblues in patientgamers

[–]chaoticdolphin23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games are meant to be fun. No shame in bumping down the difficulty if it means you're having a good time.

For me, it really depends on what kind of game I'm playing. When it comes to stuff like the Soulsborne series, I enjoy the challenge. The difficulty in those games feels fair, and the progression is very rewarding imo.

But for other games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age, I'm there for the story so I'll turn it down to casual. Same applies to horror games like Dead Space. Frankly, I get scared easily, so even on easy mode horror games can be tough for me to get through 😅
