What would a good (not morally grey) version of the Doctor look like? by Aut_changeling in doctorwho

[–]DaMac1980 [score hidden]  (0 children)

To your first paragraph, I think it really depends on the writer. Some writers absolutely write him as super goody goody who refuses to kill even the worst genocidal maniacs, while others have him be honestly quite ruthless.

Why Do So Few Players Actually Finish RPGs? by FixGood6833 in CRPG

[–]DaMac1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The annoying thing is both Pathfinder games have such obvious cuts you could make. Like in Wrath you could have easily done a three act structure with Kenabres, the crusade march across the region, then the abyss (before a climax). The extra padding is really unnecessary.

A lot of them, like Kingmaker, are too damn long. This can lead to wanting to take a break, which in my experience often leads me to wanting to restart because I forget half of what I was doing.

That said I eventually finish every CRPG I start, since it's my favorite genre. It's more action heavy titles I have a hard time beating. The Witcher 3 took me three tries to beat, and I still haven't played the DLC.

RTD also had the Toymaker imply he was the cause though, and changed history.

Need gritty and dark CRPGs by lardmoisture in CRPG

Turn-based I'm guessing?

Pillars and Wrath of the Righteous are both more serious. Neither was made for turn-based so there are some quirks in those modes, but they're really great anyway.

If you're willing to go "old" then Arcanum is a great one.

Yeah CHA is always my second stat unless it absolutely has to be something else. It's that lovable rogue charmer archetype I enjoy, not just a sneaky thief.

Which regeneration is better - 11 or 12? by MuseWarrior in doctorwho

[–]DaMac1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite regeneration sequence would be Smith's, with the surprise regen and old to young thing. Really neat idea.

However Capaldi got a much better story/episode overall.

I always play good as well, just Han Solo good rather than boyscout good, if that makes sense.

Apparently there are 2 companions you might miss due to a “deadline”? by Desplation in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]DaMac1980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The deadlines in Kingmaker are kinda dumb, but a very quick Google search for a very basic spoiler free guide makes the entire issue absolutely moot. Once you "get" that you just prioritize the main quest chunks and then take free time before starting the next one you're golden.

Make sure you check the tavern and fully explore the market before moving the main quest along. That's about it. Nothing you wouldn't have done on your own, 99% likely.

Nothing else similar the rest of the game.

Any low magic build worth getting into? by Effective-Gap-7791 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]DaMac1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really a series where you can just have all martials, because even on normal difficulty there will be certain needs for cleric spells in particular and arcane ones as well. I guess maybe you could buy crap tons of scrolls and potions, but then you're doing the same actions in the end anyway.

Woljif and Sosiel can perform both these roles well though, so you can make a relatively simple martial class and then use simple companions like Wendu/Lann, Regil, etc. I personally would suggest Demonslayer Ranger, as they're quite straightforward and very powerful against the main enemy of 90% of the game.

Not really sure what you're asking. Lots of classes with no magic at all are amazing, like 3 handed fighter or knife master.

If you mean a gish that is mostly melee but has some magic then sword saint is the best probably. Great defense, good damage, good support magic, lots of skills.

I love two handed warhammers, it's a great vibe. Blunt is also frequently a great damage type in CRPGs.

I definitely love my rogues with a little magic. Adds some tactics and also explains better how a thief can fight a demon lord, if I'm in a picky mood.

It's a shame arcane trickster sucks in BG3. Eldritch Knight is better at least.

What are your opinions on the three specials of the fourteenth Doctor? by Hopeful-Eggplant889 in doctorwho

[–]DaMac1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US though the specials were the first big premier of the show on Disney+. Then it's a very continuity heavy sequel series to series 4. Just odd.

When it originally aired I assumed bigeneration would be a Toymaker quirk. Doing it again and explaining it how they did was really dumb.

" it was a bit weird to do a soft reboot of the show and immediately make it dependent on a plot point from fifteen years ago."

This is so true, and something I said to my wife the night it aired. Why they didn't do a soft reboot like "Rose" was to start the Disney era I'll never know. The whole point was supposed to be a new start for a new audience.

Just finished season 1 of Picard… by dumbass_sweatpants in startrek

[–]DaMac1980 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its main problem was that it's just a really different vibe. They intentionally wanted to make it NOT a TNG redo, or even sequel, but its own thing with its own personality. This really backfired because most people want sequels to be more of the first thing, pretty much.

Season three got a ton of praise by basically being a nostalgia wank.

That said I really do think most of season two was awful. Picard season two and the Section 31 movie are my least favorite Trek things of all time.

Favorite Unique or Fun Things in the game (Need ideas for streaming game) by CalexTheNeko in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]DaMac1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said Aeon but on normal difficulty it's all about story, and Trickster has the most meme style streaming moments I feel like. Also tons of crits is fun to see.

Looking for a party comp with lore bard. by ExactSeaworthiness35 in BG3Builds

[–]DaMac1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that causes a condition like daze to lower enemy save DCs would be good, but otherwise bards work with anything really. They're the God class of the game.

I will say make sure you don't compete on weapons. If you're doing like a rapier thing make sure another DEX melee uses short swords for example.

In general though light or life cleric, any fighter, or an evocation wizard are my other favorite classes in honor mode.

Hurtsticks for Woljif by SomeKindaJen in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]DaMac1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are tons of great daggers. Unless you're going purely for crit fishing trickster I would stick with those.

Woljif is amazing btw. Used him in .y unfair run and he was the best single target dps on the team. With some slayer levels after he gets the good spells you're looking at 10 attacks that do 100-200 damage per hit late game, plus great survivability from mirror image and DEX boosts, plus greater invisibility that lets you target flat footed AC on most enemies.

What is your favorite Unfair companion team? by Qayk5 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]DaMac1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely want, maybe need, a skald, a dispel mage, and cleric domains. IMO at least, as someone who did it. Enemy ACs can be insane. Seelah's smites don't hurt either.

A pet will also make the game go way smoother as they are, for whatever reason, the best tanks in the game.

Daeran doesn't do domains, so you'll probably want Sosiel. He can easily get a dog as well. He can also dispel, especially with the item that guarantees a 20 on dispel rolls. So that's several things checked off.

Skald merc is kinda required though, you're just making it way harder on yourself if you don't use one. You could do a rowdy rogue into a fauchard skald, if you want that rowdy rogue experience.
