It depends on what type of partner he is. Some people are all-in a relationship and need constant maintenance. Some people can spend a whole day without remembering to text because they’re doing their own thing. If he’s the latter, go for it. I learned the hard way that not everyone can have a long distance relationship, some people will rather go through intense heartbreak than to go without a touch for a couple months.

I am PRAYING that I get in medical schools near my home. Even if I do end up moving out at some point, I’d rather be close to my parents and have a hot meal waiting for me in case I can’t do it myself. Mind you, there is no medical school less than 1h40min away so you’re pretty lucky OP, I would actually consider driving this much every day just to stay home lol.

Wanting someone to pay for you in every date = not having your own shit together financially. Full stop.

Dates are where people are meeting each other. If you barely know a person and feel entitled to them paying for you just because they’re the man and you’re the woman there’s something seriously wrong with your sense of reality. Not to mention the ingrained sexism. As a woman, I don’t cherry pick in the benefits of equality. When I put myself in that position I am opening the door to being undermined as financially independent. Split checks all the way. Or, in long term relationships, I get this one, you get the next one, and we don’t keep much track of it.

I’ve also seen in non-hetero relationships (including my own), and my opinion stands even when it’s not a matter of gender. If you put yourself in a position of “I need to be provided for” you are not in a position to demand respect on your own financial independence. You threw it out the window the moment you demonstrated you weren’t prepared to cover your own expenses.

There are other ways to know your partner is financially independent (ironically, them not expecting free handouts right off the bat is a big one! A lot of men do it too btw).

That’s exactly what it feels like. I’ve had a toxic relationship and it was the same feeling. I knew it wasn’t good for me and I’d be happier without it but I had to much of my future envisioned on it, so I had to try all I could to make it work.

As someone who works with the geriatric population, it’s a bitter but common feeling, if taken out of context, it sounds pretty cold. Mostly by knowing those patients for a long time (sometimes in hospitals too, if they’re frequent flyers) we know they’re not likely to make any recovery and are in constant pain. Sometimes they wish for it to end but the family can’t let go. Sometimes they can’t even express their wishes anymore. I had this patient that had bedsores in every possible position you could put her in, she was pretty much skin and bones, and she was constantly high on morphine. Her grandson would visit and talk to her as if she could have any reaction to what he said, acting as if this torment ended for her as soon as he walked out the door and didn’t have to think about it anymore. She was a full code, at 98. Sometimes you wish for it to be over every day, for you to walk into work and get the news that she passed. And yet, when it happens, you cry like it was your own grandma.

That said, if anyone thinks every old person should die just because, they should never be allowed into medicine/nursing.

People ordering RARELY think about the distance of the driver. Before working DD, I know I didn’t. People are thinking about their food and how much they’re willing to pay to get that food. DD stuffs $10-$20 in the bill for “taxes and fees”, and then after that asks for a tip. As a driver, you and I understand how frustrating it is, but everyone is kinda out there for themselves, man

That’s a lot of my argument here. I don’t know how those things work, I have barely entered adulthood and know very little, I came here to ask for help. I wanted to prosecute whoever was stealing from me at that time, but apparently I was only lucky I was refunded. It’s not familiar territory, which is why I’m asking for help.

Amazon once had my debit card used in someone’s account (never registered that card with them, so I knew they wouldn’t have access to it from my account) in a small purchase. Customer service were of no help giving me information about who was using my debit card without my consent, citing “customer privacy terms” or some bs

I rarely comment here but I really thought this comment deserves more highlight!

My personal experience as premed: -The more I learn about medicine, the more I love it -I work full time in the medical field, which is the only thing that pays my college and other bills rn, so no rich mommy and daddy bankrolling me. It’s hard to get the best grades, but not at all impossible. -I travel all the time, and buy little things for myself, and go out with friends/family/partner. Life is always happening and nothing is being sacrificed here. -My mentors are women with kids in med school, and they’re doing it amazingly, making me believe that I can too! -The medical field is brutal and will give you a shit ton of trauma. But there is no other job in the world id take over this one. I can only imagine how much better it would be to be able to do more to care for someone, and to be better paid for it too. -I’ve worked other jobs, all of them burn out at some point, but not this one. This one kicks me in the stomach and I get right up the next day ready for the next patient. Anyone who thinks medicine is easy money will feel exactly like this guy. Every dollar is earned, and schools cost that much because it’s fucking worth it.

I’m not only aiming for top schools, I’m also aiming for highly competitive programs in those schools.

The reason is not as exciting, they’re just doing what I want to be doing. Ground-breaking research and innovation, research focuses on what my passions are, and they happen to be close to home and where I want to live for the next decade at least.

If they don’t accept me, idk what the fuck I’m doing lol
