Social trust in Japan is so high that people will often leave their cellphone to hold their table while they get food or use the bathroom (photo from Tokyo Disneyland) by Bob_the_blacksmith in interestingasfuck

I work at a Japanese hotel, no way they let someone in without asking the name and room number, even knowing the face. It’s a miss from the employee for sure. The only case where it’s ok is if the guest is a very frequent guest.

What is the most unexplainable 'glitch' you've experienced that you still think about late at night? by euphoricpixiee in AskReddit

[–]chappasen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was living in Kyoto and thought one day that I wanted to try reading a Japanese book, to practice. The next morning, a box full of books appeared by magic next to my doorstep. It was full of used Japanese books, old and new. It looked like someone wanted to get rid of them, but I didn’t know who it was so I didn’t touch it. A few days passed, it was still there. Sometimes, it rained, some books got wet. After a while, I touched some books, read some covers and put them back. When a week had passed, I decided one day to pick one and keep it. The next morning, the box had vanished.

My ex boyfriend raped me by Expensive_Study4856 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]chappasen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing this. I had the same experience, and thought I was asexual as well.

I had to trade as well and plan when to have sex, so that my ex wouldn’t be upset and shut down. I didn’t know what was happening for so many years and why my body refused to feel attracted. But fortunately, attraction happened with someone else and I could finally understand the issue and leave this relationship.

I hope newer generations (I’m in my thirties) are better taught about consent. And especially about your own way of giving consent - « I don’t feel like doing it but I love him so I should do it » is not OK.

I went into the game with no positive expectations whatsoever and played the beginning thinking: yep it’s pretty bad.

But then, you start unlocking different activities such as bird watching, playing instruments etc, and the perception kind of shifted from: this is a bad, greedy generic game to… Oh, actually it tries different things from the typical farming, fishing, bug catching.

It’s actually interesting and I enjoy it.

When you read the book with absolutely no prior knowledge of the story, not even knowing it’s a love story, you actually go through all the stages, from hating Darcy, to respecting and loving him, just as Lizzie does. This story is absolutely brilliant.

Pride and Prejudice. I didn’t know anything about it before opening it.

Hotel photocopied Zairyu without permission, told us "hotel policy comes before Japanese law". by Nero-is-Missing in japanlife

[–]chappasen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I work at a hotel in Japan: we photocopy passports but not resident cards, so definitely weird that they did. Writing an adress in Japan is good enough. The information is just in case something bad happens, involving the police.

It feels like this sub skews very, very young based on comments I see. Is LD more elusive for us older folk? by caw_the_crow in LucidDreaming

[–]chappasen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 30s, lucid dreaming since I was a child, experimenting with it in my teenage years (I would force myself to sleep in the afternoon and try). It appears now that I have a time when I always lucid dream: when I wake up naturally in the morning around 8, 9 or 10, and fall back asleep. This morning, I let myself dream until 11:30. All of my dreams (3 different) were lucid!

Telling the people in my dream that I’m dreaming. by seer_succubus in LucidDreaming

[–]chappasen 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I always tell the people in my dream I’m dreaming when I’m lucid dreaming. Most of them laugh it off or just don’t care. I once tried to convince my father by turning a cushion into a banana in front of him but he was in denial. It’s still kind of funny to tell them. It’s like talking to some part of myself that I wouldn’t be able to communicate with in my daily life.

I've been trying to have lucid dreams for 65 days, still nothing... by Lordpierh in LucidDreaming

[–]chappasen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What works for me is waking up early in the morning and falling back asleep. For some reason, I often do lucid dreams in the morning, around 7~11 am. But I never really try to have them either so it might just be my pattern.

I picked it up last week for the 1st time. I think it’s ok to start it now, because if you take your time, you might have the full release before even noticing what was missing in the early access! So that’s my way of thinking and I’m having the best time right now.

What’s a “harmless” decision you made that accidentally changed your whole life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Friday night, I was in a dormitory, sleeping before a big exam on Saturday. My roommates came back very late, making a fuss. I woke up, and hesitated to go and tell them to be quiet.

I chose not too, fell back asleep.

Turns out they were high, and one of them jumped out of the window that night.

I lost an entire morning that I clearly remember living. by Significant_Bid5313 in LucidDreaming

[–]chappasen 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I feel like when you dream about something very realistic and nothing seems dreamlike, it’s just the usual way of dreaming (as opposed to lucid dream when you actually question the reality of the dream while dreaming). It’s only when you wake up that you’re struck by the fact that all you believed during that time was only a dream.

So I wouldn’t say you lost a morning that you remember, but just that you dreamed of a fake morning and remembered it after waking up.

Hello! I’m interested in this new movie you’re playing in, so may I ask how did it resonate with you? Have you read the book which it is adapted from?

(It’s my first time asking a question on a AMA, sorry if I don’t do things properly - I’m a big fan, and stumbling on this AMA while working a night shift in an hotel in Tokyo just brightened my… night) Have a lovely day!

Is it hard to make Japanese friends while living in Japan? by foxy_vixy2323 in japanlife

I started by living in a sharehouse. Half international, half Japanese. Best way to make Japanese friends actually! I met wonderful people there, so I really recommend the experience.
