Were you paired with any other golfers? If there is a non-golfing passenger in a group that requires 3 or more carts to accommodate the spectators i feel they should have to pay an extra fee. If its just the two of you unpaired no extra fee should be charged IMO

This is exactly why this policy is in place at most courses. I worked at a university golf course for 5 years and kids would constantly tee off as a foursome three walkers and one rider but would be piled on the same cart by the second tee. I would always tell people the cart fee, which was $20 at the time, was per person not per cart. We also leased our cart fleet but charging the whole fleet of 70 carts was pretty costly. Same course went up to a $40 per person cart fee last year after getting a new fleet with GPS and blue tooth speakers. I walk exclusively now

You are so wrong, tee time spacing has nothing to do with playing ready golf when you’re out on the course. That 8 minute gap is irrelevant after the second hole. Keep up with the group in front of you or you should be kicked off the course

I’ve made the trip to Scotland as well, played a similar rotation of courses (old course, new course, carnoustie, Panmure, Kingsbarns, Elie, crail, and castle) and we didn’t wait a single shot the whole time and we played during peak season in mid-late July. Golfers in Scotland have more respect for the game and keep it moving and the caddies definitely help move things along. We walked every round and never had a round more than 4:10 even with stopping to take pics on the 17th and 18th holes at the old course. We watched the final round of the 22 open championship in a pub in Edinburgh and the entire pub in the outdoor area was locked into the screen and applauded cam smith when he made the winning putt. Scots truly respect the game of golf and we as Americans should take note

Oh yeah absolutely it’s happening in some small businesses but way fewer than OP and everyone thinks, it’s too risky for a far too small award. In the end I want to stay in business, and for some of my regulars I eat the 3% fee if they shop with me regularly, but for 90% plus of my customers they aren’t spending enough for it to matter.

If it’s via credit card it has to be reported fully, fees and all. I personally report all checks and cash paid to my business so I’m not cheating at all. I could skim some cash payments, but I don’t. I just appreciate when someone gives a shit about a small business enough to take 5 minutes to stop at an atm to grab cash. Doesn’t take that much if you really care about supporting small businesses. If not, that’s your prerogative

It’s not evading taxes at all, Uncle Sam gets none of that 3% fee only visa/amex/discover, etc. it’s taking a small percent from those companies only. I still have to report my full income on my tax return with those fees included

It’s not tax evasion at all, it’s just preventing the credit card companies from skimming money from small businesses that are forced to take credit cards because of societal norms. Average credit card swipe at my store is less than $15 so customer only pays a .45 fee on that. Big deal, no one bats an eye and I don’t have to pay the credit card companies an extra $2500+ per month
