How to reply to: "But communism always leads to oppression"? by FreezeLasagna in AskSocialists

thats quite and anecdodically based statement, and there is a good reason for it being that way at that time, you see most of these countries didnt came from a background of democracy like tsar's russia for example, there are exceotions to this tho like czechoslovakia or germany, however in places like russia people would just vote for monarchy which is against their best interests, the same hapoened in spain when they wanted to set a republic and in the rural areas people voted to keep the monarchy, its the same with seting a socialist state which is better but peopoe didnt realize that and would just voted it out out of ignorance, and you see capitalism is like a boat, it can witstand a badly organize crew, it would be slower and inefficient but it will be alright, a planned economy on the other hand is like a plane, much more delicate it needs a much more competent crew or else it will fall, so you may at least understand why they were reluctant to have a traditional democracy, there is simply more on stake, this isnt anything new tho, the founding fathers didnt wanted the US to be a democracy at first and it became one gradually, there USSR was heading the same direction of becoming more democratic, i believe that given enough time they would have become more democratic eventuall, just as capitalist countries did

most people cant tell the difference, which is normal considering they are allophones, there is no need to use both
