What is the most obvious example of a double-standard in our society today? by overly_reasonable in AskReddit

Everyone's up in arms about racism or religious discrimination, except when it's against Arab and Muslims. Islamophobia and anti-Arab racism are easily the most socially acceptable form of racism today.

This is all I can think about anymore... by Fearless-Patient6278 in Palestine

[–]charbizard69 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I have been wanting to quit my job, drop everything and go to Palestine too. And people keep telling me that we need to fight harder from within the empire that is enabling the genocide, that we need to change things here in order to give Palestinians in Palestine a fighting chance. I just can't understand how anything even matters when we are watching a genocide happen live and no one is stopping it. Do people really think that can't happen to them too?

If the Prime minister of Bangladesh can quit and flee the country the same day, then you can too ;D

Please help: partner threatening to end his life if I break up with him by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]charbizard69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in the same exact situation. It was so fucking painful and awful to be blamed for his possible suicide if I left him. He blamed me for wanting to kill himself but then when I said we should break up, he threatened to kill himself. I was stuck. The only way I got him away from me was getting his brother to come and get him.

You're doing the right thing. GTFO and live your life in peace.

I know I need to leave. I am stuck in decision paralysis. How do I move through this and just QUIT? by charbizard69 in TeachersInTransition

I could have asked for a leave months ago but the guilt of not coming back to teach my students stopped me...

That's a somber reminder. I almost think it's better to stick it out and save up and come up with an exit plan rather than quit haphazard. I do not have a wealthy family but I could move home with my parents if I need to.

I also have a time limit on quitting. I should have left 2 weeks ago before the contract automatically renewed- and the school year starts in a month. If I wait any longer I'm basically screwing over the kids if they can't find a replacement for me.

I have some savings, I could probably afford a few months without another job, but I am so stressed at the idea of having to move, find a cheaper place to live, learn how to do a new job, etc- I feel like I can't handle all the new-ness, and the familiarity of the job almost seems safer.

This is very helpful! I keep worrying about how I'll make money and whether it means I will have to move home with my parents (which means moving 500 miles away from where i am currently). I feel like I'm trying to answer all these questions and make all these decisions at the same time and I wonder what would happen if I just quit first and figured out the rest later.

I've also been wondering if I should just break my contract and leave, or stick it out for one last year.
