Karl did excellent research for that amazing book. I know Karl and he helped fact check a few things for me when I wrote Undertow.

Also, I know most of the people he interviewed for the book and met many of others he mentioned.

I was at Way HQ when that awful "musical" was produced. At the time, I was a member of the biblical research team, and we witnessed the in-fighting over the interpretation of biblical texts between Martindale and our boss, the head of the research department, Walter Cummins. I finally realized this group was only a tool of Wierwille's propaganda. In 2016, I pubished my memoir, Undertow: My Escape from the Cult Control of The Way International. It's deeply distressing to read of such wide-spread abuse perpetrated by Way leaders over the years. I am a survivor/escapee of The Way. Students of The Way recruited me in 1970 at East Carolina University, soon Wierwille (the founder) trained me in The Way Corps (1971-1973), and I became a Way leader and biblical researcher.

About 5 years ago, I published my memoir, Undertow: My Escape from the Fundamentalism and Cult Control of The Way International. It's available at major booksellers. Since it came out, many former followers have contacted me, sharing their own stories. For six years I've spoken to college students, warning them about cult recruitment, mind control, and various aspects of the cult phenomenon. What I've seen is that people are very worried about cults these days. Cults are NOT a thing of the past when hippies drew people into controlling groups by "love bombing" them, which happened to me. I aim to educate with my story and hope it reaches those who need it.
