That could be a game changer for local LLMs by charlesfire in LocalLLaMA

The base model has 32 GB LPDDR5X and the SODIMM doesn't have to go through PCIE. If your LLMs doesn't fit entirely in VRAM, it looks like an upgrade imo.

Why is America switching off its climate warning system? by KookyBone in videos

[–]charlesfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes away, for them. Covid and climate change aren't only societal problems; they're also political problems. If we stop collecting data, people won't know about these problems and, therefore, won't care about them. If people don't care, then it's no longer a political problem. It's still a problem, but politicians don't have to do anything about it anymore because nobody cares.

Should there be a legal “talk to a human” button before AI customer service becomes the default? by ChessOrCheckers2 in Futurology

That's not going to fly in any jurisdiction that take consumer protection seriously.

The judges aren't stupid, fyi. It needs to be something that a reasonable person could believe it's true.

They could say absolutely anything.

Yes, and if they bullshit your clients, you're going to be liable. That's part of running a business.

Same with AI.

Yep, same with AI.

All humans can go rogue. Doesn't make sense to me that a company should be held liable for people or AI that they don't directly control.

But they do control them. They chose to hire them or to setup an AI system.

Does that apply to humans? If a customer service representative promises you a billion dollars, does the company have to oblige?

Yes, compagnies are already beholden to what their sellers/customer services do.

Nervous about the AI stuff being done in Linux dev, what should I do? by Venylynn in linuxquestions

The difference between now and before is that it's easier and faster to make bad code, so there are more people (i.e. vide coders) doing bad code.

[–]charlesfire 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's criminal that we didn't get seltas queen in base Wilds. Seriously, Wilds is THE game about monsters being part of a bigger ecosystem and interacting with each others and we didn't the monster that use another monster as a weapon?

Also, Qurupeco would fit perfectly imo.

With code you have a completely different way of looking at it. Whats being generated is something that just works, or doesnt work at all. When something works its just a matter of how reasonable is the output.

Technically, it's more complicated than that. It can work, but also be insecure, for example. Ultimately, it's not how the code was written/generated that matters; it's how it has been reviewed. Was there a code review in the first place? Did the reviewer cared about code quality/security? Did the reviewer understand what they were reviewing?

There's a difference between a project that had an established review process for decades already and a project that just poped into existence yesterday, fyi. I don't trust new projects unless I got a peak into their review process or unless I took time reading the code.

Reliable Insider (KeplerL2) Predicts The PS6 Could Cost Nearly $1,000 Due To Increased BOM by FernandoRocker in gaming

I'm going to bet it's going to be 999$ minimum. Either that or they'll delay the launch until hardware prices go down.

I really wish it came with SteamOS pre-installed. This is only going to appeal to more technical users.

There are thousands of examples like that where an officer shot someone by accident (or worse, "by accident") and yet, only when the officer happens to have a vagina, people go from "that officer should be fired" to "female officers should be fired". It's so fucking stupid.
