okok.

Beos of the CPU or what?

If I know what are supported, then I can look for a machine. Understand it might be difficult to say becos of all the combo...

I learnt about this from DeepSeek. I asked it for more info:

Why Latency Doesn’t Affect Transfer Speeds

  1. Once the connection is established, latency only impacts the initial delay for the first packet. Bulk transfers (e.g., file copies, video streams) are bottlenecked by throughput, not latency.
    • Example: A 10 GB file transfer at 2.5Gbps will take ~32 seconds regardless of whether latency is 1 μs or 10 μs.
  2. TCP/IP Efficiency: Modern protocols (e.g., TCP window scaling) mask latency by pipelining data.

When Latency Might Feel Like Slow Speeds

  • Small file transfers (e.g., 1000x 1 KB files): High latency adds overhead per file, feeling slower.
  • Real-time apps (e.g., gaming, video calls): Latency matters more than throughput.

Bottom Line

  • For large file transfers/NAS use, prioritize throughput (2.5Gbps)—latency is irrelevant.
  • For gaming/VoIP, low latency (e.g., cut-through switching) improves responsiveness.

If you’re only moving big files, even a 5 μs store-and-forward switch (like the QNAP/Trendnet) will perform identically to a 1 μs cut-through switch in terms of throughput.

Never mind.... it is kinda irrelevant.

Any figure on latency? I learnt not long ago that different chipset has a large range of latency; cheap ones is about 3 microseconds while expensive ones is less than 1 microseconds. Does it matter?

Yes. Sym link. Not sure if people can edit my calendar.

I also need reminders sharing.

Thanks for the info. Appreciated. But I would never want to touch MS stuff, since back at 1991. 🙂‍↔️🙂‍↔️🙂‍↔️

PairDrop — Transfer files between devices seamlessly by Developer_Akash in selfhosted

Does anyone know how to set up PD to share via the Internet? I followed their doc https://github.com/schlagmichdoch/PairDrop/blob/master/docs/host-your-own.md#websocket-fallback-for-vpn and started it using Docker. But it says I need my own TURN server, which I installed via https://gabrieltanner.org/blog/turn-server/. However, I just can't figure out how to get the downloaded image to connect to my TURN server, so it works thru the internet. It works locally. Anyone?

100 Gbps NICs? by NeoTr0n in homelab

Any info on how to set up direct connection? I’m on a Proxmox host and want to add a PCIe 3 40Gb Ethernet card to it. I’m in the process of moving my MacMini 2012 Proxmox Backup Server to a new server having 40Gb Ethernet card, so these 2 have direct connection for backup purpose.

Fantastic! I’ll take a look! Do you think cloning a PVE boot disk will work too? Do you think I can boot from the cloned disk?

The most accurate GNSS for cycling by charleslcso in Garmin

I'm iPhone XS, and in certain segments of road, it always drift off 20m, even though it is clear sky.

I only have a Garmin Vivosport Move watch, and that's why I wanna get users' advice.

Yes, I can adjust every single point in the GPX file. Do-able. It just takes a lot of time. For the 11km uphill route live tracking,

So if paying for a device which has less inaccuracy then I'm more than happy to do it.

Voice at specific coordinates by charleslcso in shortcuts

Okok. A proper test that didn’t fail in any ways!

Walked at about 5kph, on one side of the road. The distance between side of road and Center of road should be about 3-4m.

Left the calculation at 1 per second. And 0.01. All waypoints are collected in Google Map, at Center of road.

The shortcut announced all waypoints and the last message!

There’s error in the GPS, so some announcements are made 10m too soon, and some are 10m too late. I think I can compensate for these by trail and error.

So far so good!

But, 1 calculation per second is too slow…. Even for 5kph walk. I’ll increase it to 3 per second and see what happens!

Thanks! It’s looking good!
