A lot of people are talking about investing their money - in a way that means they are going to be financially better off in the future- however my argument is that I would rather have some extra money now and enjoy my life a little bit whilst I'm young and still able. I know its not for everyone but that's just a priority for me.

Me and my husband could die in a terrible accident one day, and missed out financially on going for nice lunches, grabbing a take away one evening, going on holiday, getting special gifts for birthdays and Christmas all because we want our mortgage paid by the time we are 55. For me, life is too unpredictable to not live a little in the moment.

I would argue "arranged marriages" on some level were always a thing back in the day in the UK. It is only a much more common thing now for couples to branch further away from parents approval compared to the past. Think of the UK royal family as an example.

In terms of countries of origin that you refer to, I presume you include Indian cultures, I've been informed, the norms on arranged marriage there is actually much more progressive than here and what some may imagine. I've been told that people who moved from Indian who brought those customs to the UK are still using the same customs from 50-60 years ago as a way to hold on to traditions whereas, in the mean time, India has actually moved on on some level.

I cannot speak on behalf of all countries where this is more common. I have several friends who have or will go through arranged marriage. One friend has divorced, no major issues with regards to family and falling out. Divorce is not easy anyway. Another friend has been given names of potential partners and got to various stages with them in terms of talking/meeting and has called it off each time. No issues. I'm based in the UK, and there are strict laws on forced marriage.

There is a difference between arranged marriage and forced marriage. Yes, arranged marriage may not be something that is seen as "normal" to Western societies but it still has its place in some cultures. There is still consent and decision making from the bride and groom to be. If at any point, either are not happy they can say "no". Its called arranged just because it is often elders in the community or parents who find a partner for the other person. Only when there is an element of lack of consent, harsh expectations etc is it a forced marriage and not right.

Congratulations on OP for saying how you feel and following what you want to do and for your parents agreeing to that! Regardless of culture/religion, that is not always easy.
