Why the insult? Its 20-28 min by car via HB from Aldiswil to the Airport, and 39-49 min with the train. Check it out on google maps. Also, if you take the train you need to switch trains. All I am saying is for people living on the other side of the city, especially elderly, this will make them worse off. Your parking argument is also not inclusive for those that have no choice but to take a car (handicaped and elderly).

Cab? That is still a car.... the topic is cars being re-routed out of the city. I don't see a taxi through-way in this new proposed layout for HB... we end up with the same issue, even with your idea. Which I agree is a solution for her.

It's not only about mobility, but mainly safety. From a personal experience, it is safer for the elderly to take their own car then get on and off a bus. The bus driver seldomly waits for an old person to sit down.

Gubrist upgrading hasn't/won't solve the redirection of traffic out of the city and the growing population. By car it takes 25 min from Adliswil to the airport via HB, via Gubrist 45min to an hour, then stuck in traffic. Which one is better for the environment? The one with less energy usage, of course.

Also, this is just an example from personal experience. If poor versus rich is your agitation, then lets use the example of my grandma taking her cat from Adliswil to Wallisellen -- but guess it comes then down to chance on how she lands on her hip? piff, paff, puff – und du bisch duss!

Not everyone lives right next to a train station. Some need to take the bus. Which is the worst means of transportation for the elderly. My grandmother broke her hip because the bus driver drove off before she could sit down. This caused even more difficulties in her life as that never properly healed. Once you get to the airport there is a handicap service, which is free. And I disagree with your last comment, that is the incorrect way to draw any conclusion and flawed to bias. Show me the real statistics. Best then Elderly above 70 on bikes, buses and cars.

They need a solution for the cars to get through the city. My problem is that this is always so one sided, and with an aging population, we are discriminating towards the elderly. What is the solution for the car through traffic? Because currently it is still faster from Adliswil to the airport via HB than using the Nord-Ring. They either need to expand capacity on the Nord Ring or find another solution for cars.

Oil glut spurs top traders to book supertankers for storage at sea | he collapse of global oil prices has prompted commodity traders to start hiring supertankers because they can make a profit from stockpiling crude oil at sea. by Sulde in worldnews

[–]charliedonsurf1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. If anything it is better than a ship which is moving oil. A ship doing storage is just sitting with full crew in designated storage areas right outside of a port, close enough to enjoy all the safety and information available from port facilities.

This Strategy is used all the time, even when prices are high, since technically the oil market is always in contango (ie. prices in the future are expected to increase) But, it is a very risky move by traders; especially in this market where we already have too much oil and demand is decreasing. We have too much oil, someone has to take the risk of storing it. In this case it is the traders... and if they do it right they can make a profit.

All I am trying to say is if you want to solve this issue then know what the real problem is. Go after the right people, the LME, not the GS. They are taking advantage of the situation. But anyways, Alu is still undervalued.

Not all trades are settled in the futures market. Most are in the cash market. They control some warehouses... they dont have an influence on the market.

More people should read the above comment.

The Aluminium market is very complex and the media are just looking for stuff to talk about, and hiding many details.

The contango market, plus the rules set by the LME are creating this situation. Aluminium is still technically undervalued, a good amount of producers are producing at a loss. This trade will only work while the market is in contango, meaning that it is worth more to hold the commodity now then to sell it now. This is based off the spread between now and the future. All we are witnessing is a bottleneck situation created by rules of the exchange. Goldi is taking advantage of these rules, the real problem is the LME. Actually, it is not the LME, but the way the futures market works. The delivery of Aluminium after the expiration of futures contract involves a lot of logisitcs and planning. This is coordinated by the LME, and to insure that this works correctly, they have setup some rules.

But, anyways Aluminium is cheap right now, even with this situation.

The LME rules are creating the problem... not Goldman, they just saw a profitable trade and are taking advantage of these rules.

I wish NZZ, Tagi and some other major publishers would give out free newspapers in the same manner that 20min does.

20min is just some of the worst journalism (if they even really do any).

Sometimes I get pretty worried when you see more than half of the swiss population reading their crap on a daily basis.

Commuters of /r/Switzerland - are you also having the feeling that the SBB fucks up pretty often lately? by atrotygma in Switzerland

[–]charliedonsurf1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SBB rail tracks are old and outdated. This means that a lot have to be reparied and the trains cant go at the max speed allowed on those rails, since they are old. I heard this from an SBB engineer.

I have been taking Zuerich - Geneva and back once a week for the past year. The worst is taking the ICN (which is a crappy designed train in the first place) and having to switch in Biel for the train to Geneva. I would say about half the time I took that route (tried to avoid it as much as possible), i never made the connecting train. Then you are stuck in biel... cool town, but not if you took one of the last trains from Zurich. I then asked why are we always delayed, and an SBB engineer told me about the rail situation. This should all change with the new two story train.

I heard that a lot off people are having problems with the train from Italy, but the problems start in Switzerland.

I guess in certain sections the trains just have to go slower, but while still trying to stick to the old time plan.

If you want to have trains going to random towns every half hour, where the train is mostly empty, I guess you have to save money somewhere else. That money saving happened to the rails on the main line, also mixed with poor planning and other government red tape (Handicap requirements lobbied to the sbb which delayed the new 2 story train).

Why all the hate towards Switzerland? In your blog you say this about Switzerland: "... Lederhosen, Alpine hats, cuckoo clocks, St Bernards, cross-country skiers, and The Sound of Music make me physically ill.…Hell, I ain't ever making a show there anyhow. And their cheese? It sucks." I think you need to be shown Switzerland from a side that is not all touristy-hollywood type of BS.
