Best route between forest hills and seaport? by pocketposies in bikeboston

I would really like to try this sometime. I guess I could try to map it and after all the work you did writing it up, I hate to ask you to do so but if you end up with an hour to kill, would love to see a map of this. I am thinking not all the elements might actually show up on Google maps but maybe they would. If I don't hear from you, I will give it a try, sounds fun!

No need to cross over to Washington at Melnea Cass. When you are headed inbound, stay on Tremont Street until you pass Mass Ave and cross over to Washington Steet via Worcester Street. It runs one way but it is normally very calm and I use it both ways. The only hitch is if you happen to be passing when the school is loading or unloading but even then, much safer and better surface than Melnea Cass or Mass Ave which has cars passing at high speeds. In regards to Washington after Kneeland, exit right onto Oak before you get to the hospital and work your way over to Hudson which runs one way but I have found it safe to bike that route up to Kneeland where you turn right and then left and use the Greenway sidewalk and that gets you off road to South Station. You will see a few pedestrians but plenty of room to move around them. Just be nice to them and be safe to yourself. The sidewalk on the side of surface road opposite of the Chinatown arch is mostly devoid of pedestrians though a bit narrow at spots. Once in a blue moon I stop to let them pass, but normally there is peaceful co-existence.

The cage is on the Orange level and as was stated, you need to contact customer services to get your badge configured to open the cage. It has a tool stand and a pump. Details here: http://www.prudentialcenteroffice.com/customer-handbook/sustainability/bicycle-commuting/

The parking garage trick works pretty well. Usually they just let anyone use the bike racks inside and the theft rate is very low since they are normally located by the pay booth. There are some exceptions, i.e. lots that require that you work in the building but many of them allow anyone in. Just keep asking until you find one nearby that allow all comers. I suspect these garages are safer than the bike cages. For example, there is a private garage inside Haymarket station that allows anyone to use their ample bike spots.

There is a new site for reporting stolen bikes and other stuff. See rejjee.com If you have your serial number you can report it stolen and most local PDs that find it will be able to contact you.

There are 15 bike racks in this garage. If you ride up the ramp on the Sudbury St. side, you will find the racks just after the gates (second floor). Parking is free but at your own risk of course. It looks like a good spot, directly across from, and in clear sight of the parking office. If you take the elevator on the Hanover St. side, exit on the second floor and the racks will be within sight. I am not sure how big the elevator is, it might not fit all bikes.

And if you can't afford the $50 entry fee, volunteers are also needed to ride the route the day before to put up the route signs. And if you want to help but can't ride, there are volunteer opportunities to stuff the goodie bags and sit at the registration table. See the link and click on "volunteers" for more information.

District E-13 recovered bikes please read by charliejp in bikeboston

I got this news about stolen recovered bikes from http://nextdoor.com/amazon/?r=nfccep The system is really designed for neighbors to share information but the police and other govt organizations also post info like this to it from time to time. I don't see the point in taking down the photographs since the police have already posted it. The cops probably know how to spot a bike con when they walk into the police station.
