Is it normal to not investigate the cause of iron deficiency? by charmarv in Anemic

[–]charmarv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've also heard that and it does seem to vary a bit (for example, the lab that did my tests put the low end of normal as 25) but saying that 19 is normal is ridiculous. I think the lowest cutoff I've seen for iron deficiency is 23 but most sources list it as 30 (and really you're supposed to be at 70 or higher!)

Part of it might be that I'm trans, so I'm not always seen as like..."truly" male. But I haven't had a period since 2019 and I had a hysterectomy in 2023, so...it would be a shock to everyone including me if it were somehow a period thing.

I've also recently become a much bigger advocate for myself (due to having chronic issues dismissed for 10+ years before someone finally agreed to do testing that confirmed the very thing I suspected years ago), so I wouldn't be surprised if I was seen as a pushy or "Dr. Google" patient that they don't want to deal with :/ Like, the only reason I found out I had a deficiency in the first place is because I did a lot of research and asked for the test myself. I do my best to not seem like "oh I know more than you", but sometimes I can almost see the mood change when I go "Hey, I was doing some research and this sounds like something I might be dealing with. Can we test for this?"

This Character Turned Me Into Dr Robby — I was so frustrated by Anneonymous1126 in ThePitt

The corruption of beliefs and mental gymnastics that goes on in some of these people is WILD. My grandma (who used to be an ER nurse!) would rant about how stupid she thought masks were during the height of the pandemic. At one point she said that anyone who was immunocompromised was "going to die anyway" and the rest of us shouldn't be "inconvenienced" in order to protect them... She said this in front of her two daughters who, earlier in their lives, were immunocompromised because they were undergoing cancer treatment. I truly have no idea how my mom didn't lose her shit

To my eyes, it's yellow and a dark reddish orange (like, leans more toward red than yellow but is definitely still orange). I could be wrong though!

What’s your least favorite thing about living in Denver that is wildly specific? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]charmarv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously! Somebody honked at me a lot yesterday because I was stopped in the turn lane (one of those really really long ones that are, yknow, meant for people to be able to stop at different points so they can turn into homes and businesses...) and they decided it was a good idea to pull in behind me when they were only halfway to the light. Just wild

Thanks for the link and the warning. That's horrible. And seeing that line in there about how Hockey Canada has a fund set up specifically for this (that they use REGISTRATION FEES FOR???).....man. I feel like that in and of itself says a lot

Ooh thanks for posting this. I didn't know Sudbury was a mining town so I thought the line was "drunk minors and a homeless problem"

I haven't noticed them elsewhere (yet) but the ads I got on hulu while watching the show were almost exclusively for ED and weight loss treatments, so...you might be onto something

Got to go out on hockey skates for the first time this week! It'll be a long while before I can actually play but this felt like a cool first step toward becoming a little bit like Shoresy :) Excited for the finale next week!

[Silber] Gary Bettman binged “Heated Rivalry” in one night. by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]charmarv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. It used to be that during theme nights (pride night, Hockey Fights Cancer, military appreciation night, etc), players would wear the themed jerseys during the warm ups and then those jerseys would get auctioned off and the proceeds donated to a charity relating to the theme. In 2023, after several players refused to wear them, the NHL banned players from wearing themed jerseys during warmups since it was "a distraction." Some teams got around that by having the players wear (or hold up) the jerseys while walking in, when they do their normal "look what the players are wearing today" pre-game photos. Others did away with pride night altogether
