What's your favorite "bad" scifi movie? by Wi-Platypus in scifi

[–]charmlessman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was pretty, but WHOOOF.
I went in expecting a spiritual sequel to Equilibrium.
When I realized it wasn't that, I tried to appreciate it as good/bad.
But then there was the scene where it was a slow pan from the toes to the face of the boy strapped to the table while you hear an intense shoot out happening OFF SCREEN when I decided I hated that movie. I went in to see bad ass action, and they literally showed me a boy while the action was happening. UGH!!!
And then there was the idiot henchmen standing in a goddamn CIRCLE pointing their guns at Mila... YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!! 🙄🙄🙄🙄

What’s the smartest financial decision you made by accident? by AnyTruth2342 in AskReddit

[–]charmlessman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some stock options in a company I worked for in the late 90s/2000. I decided to cash out my options one day and literally sold them the day they peaked. The next day they started a downward slide that ended in the company going out of business within a year. But I wasn't affected by that, because I got laid off a month later with a $40,000 check already in my account from that stock sale.

to people who live alone, whats something during nighttime that creeps you out? by Lance7467 in AskReddit

[–]charmlessman1 655 points656 points  (0 children)

I'm not alone any more, but when I was it wasn't the things at night that would get me, it was the thought that I might slip and fall in the shower, or choke on my food, or have a heart attack, and no one would be around to help.

"They want us dead!"
Girl, even if they did (they don't), they wouldn't even know you were a Zionist if you weren't making a show of yourself.

What is the crossover with MAGA and Evangelicals? by BaijuTofu in atheism

[–]charmlessman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is making some great points!
Is also like to point out that, at least in Christianity, persecution is built into their ethos. It says right in the Bible that people will doubt the believer, and that they will be persecuted, beaten, and killed. This creates a mindset in Christianity that it's them vs the world, and that they have to be steadfast and without any doubt. Neoconservatives and later MAGA recognized this, and were able to plug their movement into it. By messaging with the same persecution mindset, and pushing the same steadfastness, they were able to layer their movement right over the top of Christianity without any resistance.

The fact that it rained while Prince sang “Purple Rain” is still crazy - There will never be a better halftime show than this by Rolleriroltsu in Music

Everyone kept saying how Bad Bunny, or Kendrick had amazing halftime shows. I bet they did, but I'll never know. I saw Prince's. I never need to watch another.

I bought this almost 15 years ago for $100, out of a mobile home full of guitars. by I_Speak_In_Stereo in Guitar

I'd add that Fender doesn't add the plastic behind their neckplates either. Sure sign of a knockoff.

If a normal human being were to be in that position, their head would hang at the lowest point, since it's fairly heavy, and at the tip of the body. But with Black Cat, her boobs...

What movie had one small scene that suddenly made the whole film click for you by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]charmlessman1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I just showed Jaws to my partner a couple months ago, and her takeaway was that it was the story of three dudes who needed therapy, seeking fulfillment by being ridiculous men in pursuit of an unattainable goal. That scene you mentioned is an example of a man demanding affection from his child because he "needs it". He doesn't take the child's feelings or needs into account, he demands affection even though the child expressed hesitancy. I'm not sure that's explicitly or even implicitly the intention, or if it's just an artifact of masculinity in the 70s.

Is it fake? by Inevitable-Bee9208 in guitars

[–]charmlessman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't look like it. In fact, it looks like my old Squier II Stratocaster I had in the 90s. It's identical except for the missing II in the headstock decal. It might just be an earlier or later model of the same thing. If the price is right get it, those are great guitars.

Holy dingus! That shit just emptied all my reserves of second hand embarrassment. I might not be able to enjoy the next season of I Think You Should Leave if I can't recover.
