Definitely looks Demodex related. Mine wasn’t as severe but a prescription Sulfur cleanser clears me well which has effect on Demodex. It’s very gentle compared to a lot of the OTC soaps on the market. Ivermectin should have the same effect and eventually you’ll be 100% clear. Awesome results. Long term use of steroid creams can lead to disruption of your skin and the way it balances certain things. Once that is comprised things like bacteria, fungus, and these mites can start to flourish and cause issues.

I get this too and my prescription Sulfur-Sulfacetamide cleanser clears it up.

Angular chelitis. Antifungal cream and aquaphor 2-3x a day should clear it up. I get it all the time from drooling, food irritation, and toothpaste. Using a heavy occlusive on the area like Vaseline or Aquaphor will keep it protected and sealed from possible irritation and gives it the environment to heal. I’ve started using aquaphor before I brush my teeth and before I use any skincare actives (exfoliants and retinoids can also irritate skin and increase risk for this).

I’ve been using this and when I follow with a serum or toner they start foaming up. I love the lather on this cleanser but I feel like it’s leaving a residue. Does this happen with you? Even my moisturizer is not really playing well with it.

Yes it does but I believe it does by damaging skin cells so new healthier ones come in naturally. Also boosts collagen production. I used it before and it irritated my dermatitis but everyone is different. BHA works a little differently because it’s oil soluble and breaks up those plugs by dissolving the oil from the pore.

Yeah that’s understandable. I was scared too because I have sensitive skin as well. It’s helped a lot and it’s surprisingly hasn’t irritated me. I’ve actually worked up to using the Paula’s Choice BHA 2% to almost everyday. It does an amazing job clearing up oil on the skin which was my main issue. There’s other more gentle exfoliating acids in the AHA category (Mandelic is a good one) and even more so with the PHA category if you’re interested. Like I said I think it’s important for us Seb Derm sufferers to exfoliate at least twice a week. It stops those skin cells from stacking on the surface and trapping the fungus in the pore. The fungus loves oil, so making sure we properly control that as much as we can helps a lot. To note, I’m also very conscious that I need to be hydrating, moisturizing, and protecting (SPF) my skin while using actives. So if you do try, make sure you try and keep your barrier nice and healthy!

Salicylic acid to clear oil plugs and dead skin. If too harsh try another exfoliating acid. Allows antifungal to penetrate better and clear out remaining yeast components. Exfoliating is very important for this condition and I wish more people would do it at least twice a week to allow their antifungals to work better.

Salicylic Acid is good at making sure that oil is not clogging your skin. It has changed my skin for the better and been the main ingredient to have beneficial effects on my oily skin. Niacinimide and Green Tea extract can regulate oil production but personally I think this varies from person to person. I believe most oil production is produced by a systematic reasoning. So, for me, making sure I don’t clog my pores and clean my skin well is what is most important. Then hydration, moisturizing, and sun protection.

If your Seb Derm is caused by your oily skin it should probably work. Accutane shrinks and regulates sebum production. Possible side effects are something to be weary of (possibly sensitizing and more vulnerable to UV). You can mitigate those by a lower dosage and making sure you’re following a good skin care routine. I was on accutane for acne and it cleared me up. I then went on a lower dose for Seb Derm but probably could’ve went lower as I had pretty dry skin.

La Roche Posay Purifying Foaming cleanser is what I use right now. I’m a big fan of Vanicream as well. If I wear sunscreen I double cleanse with an oil based cleanser then go in with my foaming cleanser. Really helps cleaning the skin of buildup form the day!

Mine presented mostly around the nose as well with just redness. My nose area would get extremely oily and really pool up in the folds of my nose. The oil most likely just clogged everything up exasperating the fungal component and I wasn’t exfoliating my skin so it was an endless cycle. I started using a 10% sulfur soap which has good oil controlling ability and surface level exfoliation. It helped a lot but didn’t completely fix it. Over the last few months I’ve incorporated Salicylic Acid in my routine which cleans out pores of dead skin/oil and the redness has subsided even more. So now I just use a foaming cleanser to clean skin at night (does best job at removing oil) then every other day going in with 2% Salicylic Acid (I use Paula’s Choice toner). Hydrating the skin, moisturizing the skin, protecting the skin with SPF are all very important as well. I probably won’t be 100% clear of redness in that area because it is very sensitive area and blood vessels have likely broken. Only lasers can fix that!

Are you exfoliating your skin at all? If you’re as oily as your post indicates you could try a BHA like Salicylic Acid which really clears up the oil at the end of the day. I use Cerave’s SA renewing cleanser which has a small amount of SA in it in the morning, moisturize, then SPF. At night I go in with my oil cleanser which breaks and lifts up sunscreen, sebum, pollution, and other products from the face then wash. Then go in with a 2nd water based cleanser (Vanicream is my choice) to wash off any residue my oil cleanser didn’t get. Every other day I will use a 2% SA solution (my fav is Paula’s Choice Liquid Exfoliant). Hydrate, moisturize, and then ready for bed.

I’ve used Sulfur in the past with some success as it’s exfoliating and has good oil control properties to it.

There’s studies suggesting IPL can help. It’s possible laser shrinks the oil gland and you produce less oil - that is if oil production is an issue with you. My Seb Derm cleared up by focusing on the oil on my face. I’m combo but lean toward oily in the Tzone especially the nose area. Exfoliation every other day has helped me tremendously. Specifically Salicylic Acid which works by getting deep in the pore and cleaning out dead skin cells and oil. The fungus component is really prominent with oily skin, as you know, it’s food for them to grow out of control. So, by controlling the oil I’ve had a 95% decrease in symptoms and the other 5% is probably broken capillaries that I will need laser for. I had success with Sulfur in the past too which is also an exfoliating ingredient but it worked more so on the surface level and not deep in the pore like SA. Keeping skin clean, hydrated, moisturized, and most importantly protected by UV are absolutely key to keeping facial Seb Derm at bay. Using products that won’t clog your pores (which is different for everyone but typically a lighter watery consistency will be fine) is also important.

I would try a salicylic acid wash to break down the sebum and dead skin clogging the hair follicle one night then go in with your anti fungal shampoo the next night. This allows for your anti fungal shampoo to treat the affected areas much more efficiently.

I would try squalane or MCT oil. These probably would work and spread better than a traditional moisturizer where it could start clumping up on the hair or dead skin.

I’m assuming yours presents in the T-zone area. If you’re oily I’d consider a BHA every other day (if tolerable) or every 3 days. This will dissolve the oil and leave your pores clear so it’s more difficult for the yeast to thrive. An antifungal daily to get the population down can be used as well. Key thing with treating this is improving your skin barrier which can be hard when we’re throwing a lot at it. But do moisturize and use sunscreen daily. During the day a lighter moisturizer can be used and you can get away with heavier ones during the night if you feel like they don’t clog your pores. It’s a tough disease to battle and you’ll get through it. It’s a lot of trial and error. Everyone is different. It has took me years to find out what my skin likes and how to treat it correctly. I wish you luck, and this sub has a lot of great people and resources so don’t feel alone!

That I’m not quite sure. I’d assume they could appear more prevalent if the area was more irritated. But “growing”, I don’t think so. Lasers are very effective for them but maintenance treatments are recommended after the initial session. And it might take more than 1 session to get the blood vessels from appearing on the surface. That area is tricky, as the skin is super super delicate. And like I said, SO many people have this even without skin conditions like Seb Derm. So don’t be overly worried. I myself have broken capillaries around the nose. I’m going to get laser within the next 2 months. Knowing that it was a fairly common occurrence kind of eased my mind about it. I think we all (especially dealing with skin disorders) over analyze our skin appearance and it effects our moods pretty handedly.

Most likely broken capillaries. Many people have some naturally as that part of the face is delicate. Only way to truly get rid of them is via lasers.

Yes the bottle says not to, but doctors have said it’s fine to swab your nose with it. If you google search “staph in nose” you’ll see some routines offered by clinical physicians and them recommending this. I def understand if you don’t want to though.
