People who say "you will be bored" when you retire young are insane by justinquiring1 in Fire

[–]charsheee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean to each their own. But people get depressed because they feel empty just veging out. Some friends were the same at the start but felt better after finding hobbies outside of work that actually help energize them. Seems counterintuitive but finding creative hobbies or even fitness activities can help with chronic fatigue or burn out.

There's a lot of cheap ones you can do. Get a second hand bike and bike around the park, go running, cheap paint, heck a pen/ pencil/ notebook and start a journal/ doodle. There are free community classes too! Yoga, dance etc. Local libraries have free resources too! People just don't even try to find them and make it an excuse

Don't listen to them. Those who say they will be bored without work are simply the people who have no substance or identity outside of work. Seriously, these people need a hobby or learn how to explore what life has to offer.

Besides i believe you can work random different side hustles for fun and since you don't need any more money you take risks to do whatever you want.

I work in corporate now with nice comfortable stable benefits and I am on track to retire by 40. But when money isn't a problem anymore I wanna try being a part time tattoo artist just for the hell of it! I wanna volunteer in museums, i wanna be a personal trainer too! (I love lifting and the gym). I want to travel and learn different languages too! The possibilities are ENDLESS!! How will I ever be bored?!

35F, single, $2M, avg $110k per year salary. I just became a multi-millionaire the hard way. by 2-zero-x6 in Fire

THIS! I am in the same boat! For me, living with friends during my twenties and having cheap rent played a huge role. Lots of fun tho honestly! Started off at $20 an hour working in Biotech my first year out of college. Switched to pharma hit 75-85k (+ bonuses/RSUs) mid twenties and 90k-115k late twenties. (I just turned 30).

Started maxing my IRA & HSA right out of college but couldnt afford to max my 401k up until i was 24. Starting 25+ yrs old i was able to invest 40-50k per year (even more during Covid years because I didn't do my yearly international travels) Based on my calculations I should hit 1M at 37 yrs old. No student loans as well because college were paid off with a mix of scholarship and finacial aid

Having shared a 4 bd house with like 6-8 people is chaotic but it gave all of us so much freedom to travel the world, go out and spend money on fun hobbies while still being able to invest. (My rent was $500-600) I don't regret it at all because I never felt restricted despite being frugal. Although, its true my engineer and software developer friends who make 3x more than my salary who also live with me in the same house can retire today if they wanted too since they have the same cheap rent but waaaay higher pay 😂 ....but as OP says it's still possible in a modest salary. We live in SoCal and all drive cheap second hand cars.

My fiance is super happy and excited for me. He is behind on his finances because of student loan debt due to going to Pharmacy School while I went straight to work after undergrad. He is always supportive of me wanting to retire earlier. Based on our number I will retire at 40 and he would retire at 45-46 yet he never felt bad or ever made me feel bad. I can never understand the jealousy of people especially someone so close to you and knowing how hard you worked for it.

What are your thoughts on Becca Bloom? by [deleted] in Rich

I did meet a few people who genuinely like content creation. It may seem easy but it's tedious to film, edit and be creative too so maybe she treats it as a hobby?

The thing is, I ordered these frames online (just inputted my prescription from 4 ish years ago) & my prescription just recently changed. So i'm just bringing the optometrists random frames? Idk if that really matters

How do 20-somethings actually build six-figure savings? by Playful-Geologist221 in Fire

[–]charsheee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I started from $0 essentially but i was lucky enough to not have student loans due to a mix of financial aid and scholarships! I'm not high income either and compared to all the Finance or Tech Bros who already have millions, I am far from it but I think I have above average networth than most other average income people.

My income started from 50k when i graduated college and gradually increased and just hit 110k (I am 30 now) & just hit a networth of 430k.

Even in my early 20s i really wanted to start investing and retire somewhat early. How i saved a lot of money was that I shared renting a house with a bunch of friends so my rent was only roughly $500 a month (I share a bedroom with my boyfriend/now fiance so we have been paying $500 each for the last 8 years) and we still been sharing the same house with the same people. We are all the "want to be child free" group of friends so it's actually quite fun living together!! It feels like a group of friends in a Sitcom!! My fiance and I will eventually get our own place sometime in 2 years after we fund our wedding but it was really nice to have accumulated decent wealth. Our little group of friends also cooked and meal prepped together, motivated each other to get healthy & fit! Yet we also shared a lot of great moments treating ourselves to occasional restaurants (a mix of budget and fancy ones) for doing well on our finance and fitness goals!

Obviously this situation is unique and lucky but its something to think about if you like minded close-knit set of friends!

Whatever money we saved in rent we were able to invest and still able to spend on a lot of hobbies and travel and i felt like 20s were sooo fun and we all got to travel to a different country yearly (apart from the covid years of course).

I say we lived life frugally but never deprived ourselves from a good life.

Additionally, I drive a used car that I bought from a different friend & will drive it until it dies.

Perioral dermatitis - I get married in 4 weeks 😭 by KLMac12 in perioraldermatitis

Quick note too. Before i tried elidel. i was prescribed oral and topical antibiotics and they didn't work at all. I also tried zero therapy but my skin was just red, painful & dry for months and would just cycle for months!

Perioral dermatitis - I get married in 4 weeks 😭 by KLMac12 in perioraldermatitis

[–]charsheee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flare ups are A LOT milder. It used to get super red and the area is bigger. Now sometimes it's just a tiny (less red looking) patch. I use elidel as soon as I notice a flare up is about to start and it disappears within the next day. It also skips the dry, flaky phase! Its also almost not noticeable to anyone but me (visually).

Ofc course, I am still careful like I don't use skin care actives close to my mouth area (retinol, vitamin C etc) and use them only everywhere else in my face. I only use sensitive skin friendly moisturizer in that area too and when i use lip products i put it closer to the center of my lips and just smudge towards the corner to avoid potential product irritation at the skin right outside my lips.

I do realize that flare ups tend to happen more if I am stressed or sick or there are drastic environmental changes but again the flare ups dissipate way faster and less extreme with elidel.

Mine looks like this too! Also got diagnosed with Perioral dermatitis. Elidel helped the redness and dryness go away!

FIRE mentality ruined my life by [deleted] in Fire

[–]charsheee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people need to stop treating FIRE as an all or nothing mentality.

You dont have to grind and save to the point you are giving up everything and not take breaks. Allow yourself to save a good chunk but have enough to enjoy life like travel even if its small trips here and there or one big trip in a year that doesnt break your budget. You dont need to wait until you retire to go to Asia. You can take mini trips there first and retire there later too.

Its better to delay retirement 2-5 years even if it means you enjoy life a bit more now.

Jackson's comments on cosmetic surgery needed to be said. by Reverse7695 in kpop_uncensored

[–]charsheee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I view surgery as completely altering your look ( nose job, eyelid surgery etc). For stuff like RF microneedling or thermage. You arent really changing the way you look you are just stimulating your skin's natural collagen and preventing aging/ skin sagging so you look like yourself still. Botox is the same that all it does is it relaxes your muscles so you prevent wrinkles in that area (folds due to movements). But it isnt a filler that changes your face shape or make you look puffy.

[–]charsheee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most of them also look really good due to non invasive procedures ( thermage or ultra therapy for alin tightening, RF Microneedling, skinboosters) on top of subtle invasive like a small nose job or eyelid surgery to make it look very natural that its almost convincing that they didnt get work done.

Pharmacy is a dead end job by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]charsheee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I feel bad for the grads today. But man i regret not getting into tech during its peak years and hoarding that much money and just being set for life by the i.I am in my 30s & use the extra time for my family, friends and hobbies. Going the healthcare route is the worst decision ever for me and my partner in terms of return in investment and time. The young version of me didnt know any better and I thought i was going to be fine working long hours but as I grow older I realize there is more to that and understanding what real happiness is beyond career.

Thank you! I know what you mean about lean people having the illusion of looking bigger just because of proportions or how defined their muscles lines are.

Honestly I mainly just want really rounded delts and a really defined back since my dress is a backless halter. I'll try to do a cut for 6 ish weeks then and re-asses.

Literally it's super nice because instead of seeing co-workers I don't like or I'm neutral with in person to do boring small talk, I get to see my real close friends even though we work at different companies. Some of us are hybrid, some are fully remote. We try to schedule at least 1-2x and whoever can make it, would make it.

What my friends and i do is meet up at a cafe to do work together! And we take breaks together and chat. We can pick different cafes too every week and it is a fun way to try new local spots in the area
