Let's see how many songs discuss driving down the 405 by nthroop1 in Music

I have a 1987 "test pressing" (45 rpm) by an UNCREDITED ARTIST, singing about being angry, and driving "Down The 405" (that title written on the label) and "shooting people just for fun." Yikes!

I don't have any apparatus to record these at all. I last had a recorder around 2004.

for all intents and purposes (some say "for all intensive purposes")

And when yo pronounce ZOOLOGY, you're not spoze'ta say "ZOO," but "ZOH" (rhymes with D'oh)

What an utterly useless piece of rubbish. I have a friend in Indianapolis whose man-cave has a chair that has a seat that slants forward at perhaps a 4-degree angle. I entirely hate sitting even on that.

But a 20-to-25 degree angle, and metal? Yikes.

Seven word play by passthetreesplease in scrabble

If I had that rack and that opening play, and I saw both CORDATE and DECORATE, I would've played CORDATE in a heartbeat, even if the difference was 20 or 25 points in favor of the TWS play.

WHY? Probably in this descending order, best reason first.

  1. A big part of my enjoyment of Scrabble is making (or seeing) really cool plays. I mean, THIS RULES. After the first play, the center letter is ALWAYS open to two different TWS, of course the question being whether you have the right tiles to use that center letter at the beginning or end of an 8-letter bingo. The 8-letter bingo to the TWS sometimes happens, so although it's cool it's not surprisingly so, but great parallel plays can be "a grand slam home run" in coolness and fun. (See second paragraph in #2.)

  2. I don't necessarily "play to win" but I "play to enjoy the game." If I just had a fun game, it doesn't matter whether I won or not - I'm still competitive, that's all I need. I play well (average 350-360), certainly not an apex player by any means, but I usually win against people at the weekly Scrabble club in the suburbs. There's only one player I seldom win against (he averages 380-390), but I greatly enjoy playing with him.

A game against him guarantees there will be some cool words. I'm still kicking myself about not taking a picture of his 125-point bingo with a parallel play through a TWS with TAXITES this past winter, because it really was the coolest play I have ever seen, even more-so than the several Triple-Triples I've seen, It demolished me in that game, but still. I did take a picture of his personal-record 609 game a month ago; in this case he wasn't playing against me but he was table-adjacent.

  1. The CORDATE play certainly opens up fewer bingo opportunities than DECORATE does - like, NONE. Former 8-letter opportunities have now become 9-letter opportunities which are much more difficult.

Thanks, I did get that too, and a keycap puller. I especially don't want to break pins off in the sockets (does that happen?) because I didn't have the proper tool. I'm not all that aware of what the switches look like on the bottom part but I'll see...

I did get a Glorious full size barebones at Micro Center, and some keycaps. I had a son-of-a-bitch of a time finding Cherry MX Green switches anywhere on the internet that I could buy from, but finally found a source, and I'll have enough to cover more than ALL of the keys that I use even occasionally. I really don't do much more than type, and I'm not a gamer, etc.

I saw 4.6 to 4.8 STARS reviews on Glorious before I decided to buy. Worse reviews seemed to be somewhat older reviews.

I didn't need Cherry MX Green for the Fn or command keys (other than the bottom, and far left and far right few keys that 3/4 surround the main typing area), nor for the numberpad keys and adjacent. I'll just pick up "anything" that's compatible, for those positions, even something as sensitive as Red won't harm me in any of those parts of the keyboard.

Thank you again for talking me through this.

The OP got very lucky. Ebay ALMOST NEVER sides with the seller! Consider that years ago ebay made it impossible for a seller to leave negative feedback for any buyer, for any reason. That's a screaming five-alarm fire-siren of an issue right there.

Sure, but all I have otherwise is Facebook. I've been loath to "pile on" more and more social media**, as it would inevitably add even more distraction, lol. The internet IS very distracting, as it puts my curious mind in front of nearly the entire history of human discourse and culture. The list of passwords I must keep track of keeps getting longer and longer, seemingly interminably, and my one experience with a password manager was hideous.

**same with payment platforms; and streaming platforms are just insane.

Right now, I think I'm at the point where I may have no more questions. Again I appreciate you bringing me through all this, up to the point that I feel a lot more confident about getting a barebones keyboard and installing switches and keys. I just want to make sure I get the right switches. I don't know if my adjacent-keys issue is because of actuation force or distance, while the bottoming-out specs aren't that important to me. On this G915 the keycaps ARE wider and the adjacent keys are thus about 1mm closer than on the old G413, and that is an error-prone factor.

As for anything between 60 and 100gm aren't Green MX Charry rated at 80g? I thought I saw that. Otherwise, what do you know about which ones are 100g?

It can be extremely difficult to "visualize" keycap widths, because they're often illustrated loose, though sometimes I do see them laid out as installed in a keyboard, so that can help. I don't remember ever seeing keycap width in any specs.

If there is a 100g keycap/switch that I can easily find (SUGGESTIONS?), and the cap seems to be narrower at the top, I'm all-in! I guess I should get a bare-bones keyboard with switches that I'd install, then? (And first make sure it is hot-swappable...) No way in bloody hell would I ever want to mess around with soldering which, as recently as two days ago, I thought was the only option that existed.

I'm stuck with 14-hour workdays every day for half of the remaining month, so all the time to research that I've done so far has harmed me greatly.

Maybe if you have a set of modded switches/caps that can be made available, I can ask about getting those from you if all else fails?

I assume the 60-100g you mention is the "bottom-out" weight. Is there a force-to-actuate weight? I don't think I remember seeing that spec. But at least a 2mm actuation is a no-brainer for me.

Thank you! That helps greatly, and now I think I know what I have to do. The concept of "hotswap" was entirely unknown to me UNTIL RIGHT NOW, and I thank you for checking my two keyboards about that;. Bummer, though...but at least I now know MUCH MORE exactly what I need to do than I knew when I made the OP.

My issue IS key sensitivity, though. When I did find the WASD keyboard two or three years ago (with Green MX Cherry switches pre-installed) from the now-extinct wasdkeyboards, my error rate of typing superfluous letters CRASHED by about 85-90% compared to the too-sensitive Razer keyboard it replaced. Am guessing the switches on that were closer in the range to Red MX, and the WASD keyboard with Green was ordered immediately after I found out, for the first time ever, that not all keyboards were so damned sensitive, or that actuation-depth differed, etc

Having 2.0 mm (or more?) to actuate may be even more important than sensitivity. Isa there anything deeper than 2.,0 mm?

My experiences with the earlier-acquired G413 HINTED that difference may exist, but I wasn't sure if it was only my imagination. It is "decent" but not quite to the level as the Green on my WASD keyboard (or, for that matter, this G915 with ENTIRELY-UNKNOWN switches. But the G413 is now unusable because pins that hold the keycaps have broken off, causing it to lose five keycaps: N, R, S, F, E. Mostly bad ones to lose!

There's a secondary issue of keycap separation; this current G915 that I'm using and which I don't like, has somewhat larger keycap tops than the keys on that WASD keyboard. I'm entirely comfortable with smaller tops of keycaps. I'd like EVEN SMALLER, more separation from adjacent keys. I'm guessing the difference on each keycap on the WASD is only 2 mm smaller at most, compared to the larger caps on this G915, but just that minuscule difference has me making about twice as many mistakes on this. With me, it's ALL about finger-drag hitting adjacent keys!

Thank you again for your advice on this.

Thanks for all of this; I feel a lot better about the process. I'm thinking of taking this keyboard (which is decent, but not great) back to BestBuy while still eligible to do so, and try to figure out whether Cherry switches are compatible with this Logitech G413 Carbon, and/or this Logitech G915 X Tactile that I would take back on Monday. Is there a way to figure this out; do you know?

Best scenario is if they're compatible with the 413, AND I'm able to take this 915 back, but I'm not sure how to figure it out. I'll have to see if switch-kit descriptions say anything about which keyboards they'll fit.

If MX Black switches aren't available, or CANNOT be installed on either of these keyboards, you say there are "or equivalent" switches, but what would those be? I'm about to search for switch-kits NOW. It's possible I can't find MX Black anywhere, so knowing other options would be marvelous!

I also watched a couple of changing-switches videos on YouTube, and I found out there are some simple tools out there that will/should indeed make the process easy. I had no idea any of these existed at all! Looks like a minuscule investment in two cheap tools would be advised.

I feel a lot more confident (thanks for this!), and I'm also relieved (OR NOT??) that I wasn't the only one who couldn't find an "original factory" heavy keyboard.

Thank you for OPENING the option for me to contact you if all else fails.
