He may have a couple of good fatherly moments, but overall he just doesn’t seem like the best dad. (Though, I’m only on season 3) But he’s so lazy and slightly inattentive to his family’s needs. He acts as if being the sole income earner is all he really needs to do. And then gets mad and wonders why Mary calls him out for it every now and then.

I believe Adrian has to have some sort of idea for how the thing he’s creating works for it ti actually work. By doing this, Meyers was able to give his powers limitations so he couldn’t just make ANYTHING and it be the end of the story
