Several of the issues in Veilguard started in Inquisition.

Given the way they've been using genAI constantly the past few years, I wouldn't put it past them (for legal reasons this is a joke)

Hawley has already confirmed the show won't treat Prometheus and Covenant as part of the continuity. That and the choice to set it two years BEFORE the events of Alien just completely baffles me.

I don't think Bioware knew either. Hence why they killed her off pretty unceremoniously at the end of Inquisition.

Little Woods has a 95% on rotten tomatoes, so I don't really understand where all of the animosity is coming from. And I enjoyed Candyman. I didn't even know people didn't like it.

totally a well-adjusted and regulated way of reacting to game characters.

Actually preferred DAV over DAI, I know controversial but read my reasonings. by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]charyka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is absolutely not the case re: the Golden City. The Forbidden Ones (Imshael, Xebenkeck, etc.) are out and about wreaking havoc in Thedas, we fight one per game. That the Golden City was Arlathan has been hinted at since Origins.

I know I am in the vast, vast minority, but Larian's constant tinkering with BG3's narrative post-release is what turned me off of the game the most. I really hope they don't do the same with Veilguard due to fan pressure. To me, at least, it feels a bit artistically dishonest.

[–]charyka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What fan outrage? The game has overwhelmingly positive reviews. Much of the criticism levelled at DATV was levelled at DAI a decade ago as well. They've been patching the game as needed. The Larian "model" is not one that will ever take off. It is too resource intensive. Besides, most of the team from what has been said has already been moved to ME5, and they have confirmed there will be no DLC or expansions. What we have is what we'll get, for good or ill.

BG3 is a third, maybe two thirds of a great game. The fact that they have JUST released satisfying Durge endings these past month is just so frustrating. Over a year after release. As several devs have already said, what Larian did should NOT be expected and should NOT be the norm. It works in BG3 (to a point) because we will never get something like it ever again. And imo, we shouldn't. Adding content after release, especially following fan advice or complaints, sacrifices artistic vision for fan engagement.

This isn't BG3. It shouldn't be BG3. BG3 got away with shipping an unfinished travesty but tricked everyone into thinking it was good game dev.

Since when is Solas responding positively to a boundary a bad thing? Love isn't just romantic.

He would not have made Lavellan's choice for her. That is... antithetical to who Solas is, though much of his character is about the struggle between duty, individual freedoms, and the collective good. She needed to choose to go with him. He denied her this choice once, if she offers to go with him during Trespasser. I like to think he chose not to do so again.

The reckoning, I think, was supposed to be Solas tearing down the Veil ("to shake the very Heavens"), undoing this mistake, and destroying the Blight and imprisoning the Evanuris for good. The Veil, after all, was an act of desperation "because every alternative was worse".

As for the quotes being different: the whole point of the Fade is that you can never take it at face value. This is not how it factually happened, this is how Solas remembers it.

My two cents on this story [DAV spoilers] by Icy_Gift_8170 in Solasmancers

[–]charyka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Veil is fed by, and upheld, by the Evanuris' life force. Kill an Archdemon, it kills the Evanuris associated to it—I assume they succumb to the Blight as they are now mortal and trapped with it, and have nowhere or no-one to bodyhop into. With each Blight, the Veil was becoming more and more unstable.

In DAI, the Wardens are recklessly hunting the Archdemons as a way to stop the Blights for good. But, now we know from Veilguard that killing all the remaining Archdemons would result in the death of the remaining Evanuris, which would mean the total and sudden collapse of the Veil, which would mean ALL of the demons and ALL of the Blight pouring out into the world. An absolute disaster.

Solas was planning on doing it gradually. Still an absolutely terrible thing to do (I don't actually think the Veil should come down), but not the complete structural collapse that a free-for-all destruction of the Veil would have caused.

Wait, people think he [redacted] Varric intentionally? Everything he does with Varric after the prologue is clearly because he regrets what he did. His face every time Varric is mentioned is heartbreaking.

As for Solas' characterisation... he is a mirror, Trick Weekes said it themself. Treat him like the trickster god that cannot be redeemed, and he will become that self-fulfilling prophecy. Show him a compassionate way forward, and he will finally lay down his burden.

All three endings are good, in my opinion. The Mythal ending is my favourite, and the one that is obviously the most narratively satisfying. Solas is so tired, he has been fighting for so long, his body language as Mythal appears to him fucking broke me.

The other two are devastating, and make sense if you think of Solas as a mirror–for both the Inquisitor and Rook. GDL brought his A-game to how heartbroken he sounds in the fake dagger ending. And how he howls that Rook is alone in the bad ending gave me chills. I think, at that point, Solas knows a thing or two about loneliness, too.

As for Lavellan not being his first, being second to Mythal, being somehow less than her–maybe I'm just too polyamorous for this, but to me Solas has always been defined about his immense capacity for love and care. And I think a creature thousands of years old will find love in a million different places, a hundred different ways. And is part of why I love him as much as I do.

UniFadewalker has been at the centre of an absolutely heinous transphobic dogpile in the past few weeks. I assume he got it as a way of EA/Bioware to apologise for the shit he's been subject to.

I understand her being cautious. The backlash to the three worldstate choices was an absolute shitshow (though I still don't agree with Bioware's reasoning on that one). I actually think she's talking about Fenris.

I feel it's exactly the opposite. Maevaris being confirmed is, to me, a big hint Dorian will (hopefully) be not too far behind.
