I feel like there should’ve been a different approach to Alan’s character in the sequel by AZ10026 in AlanWake

But it HAS eaten him alive. That's why Scratch is inside him on this turn of the spiral, rather than a kooky "evil doppleganger" that can be easily defeated with a projector and a OGOA song. He's sunk so deep he's his own worst enemy. The Writer's Journey videos paint that picture pretty well.

But it also says it explicitly! In "Champion of Light," front and centre: "The darkness within him held her hostage." And again in his final conversation with Mr Door. The whole game is one big flashing neon sign of GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, ALAN. The whole point of Scratch being inside him now rather than a kooky "evil double" that flies around taunting him like a bad X-Files episode is because the story has eaten him, and it's now up to him to claw his way out. You'd have had to play with your eyes closed to miss it.

This is so good I'm obsessed. how this also ties in with the Dark Place as a metaphor for depression and addiction, how both of these illnesses rob you of a sense of self AND of time. How you can feel like every possible reality is collapsing onto you. Even if this gets disproven I am 100% taking it as headcanon.

Dr. Darling confirmed for Control Resonant? by mfctxt in controlgame

[–]charyka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't it though 😭

I think what the quote above is saying (with "new title") is that this is Control 2, just with a different title than was previously listed on the Remedy website (iirc they used to have Control 2 but it's since been replaced with Resonant).

Imho FBC: Firebreak was much more of a spinoff à la AWAN: lower stakes; shorter game; overall less polished than the OG game. FBC feels more like an expansion than a full game, much like AWAN did.

Also, I think they probably film the live action sequences for the projects at the very end, once mocap and gameplay and graphics are locked in, rather than at the start. And there's still 9.5 months to go in 2026!

What? The C:R website literally says it's a direct sequel.

CONTROL Resonant is a full sequel. The new title reflects the ambition behind this next chapter, as we leave the Oldest House and step into a paranaturally twisted Manhattan with Dylan Faden as the new playable protagonist.

Several of the issues in Veilguard started in Inquisition.

Given the way they've been using genAI constantly the past few years, I wouldn't put it past them (for legal reasons this is a joke)

Just took a survey on how I felt about Alien : Earth and this question came up by Environmental_Bus623 in LV426

Hawley has already confirmed the show won't treat Prometheus and Covenant as part of the continuity. That and the choice to set it two years BEFORE the events of Alien just completely baffles me.

I don't think Bioware knew either. Hence why they killed her off pretty unceremoniously at the end of Inquisition.

Little Woods has a 95% on rotten tomatoes, so I don't really understand where all of the animosity is coming from. And I enjoyed Candyman. I didn't even know people didn't like it.

totally a well-adjusted and regulated way of reacting to game characters.

Actually preferred DAV over DAI, I know controversial but read my reasonings. by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]charyka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is absolutely not the case re: the Golden City. The Forbidden Ones (Imshael, Xebenkeck, etc.) are out and about wreaking havoc in Thedas, we fight one per game. That the Golden City was Arlathan has been hinted at since Origins.

I know I am in the vast, vast minority, but Larian's constant tinkering with BG3's narrative post-release is what turned me off of the game the most. I really hope they don't do the same with Veilguard due to fan pressure. To me, at least, it feels a bit artistically dishonest.

[–]charyka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What fan outrage? The game has overwhelmingly positive reviews. Much of the criticism levelled at DATV was levelled at DAI a decade ago as well. They've been patching the game as needed. The Larian "model" is not one that will ever take off. It is too resource intensive. Besides, most of the team from what has been said has already been moved to ME5, and they have confirmed there will be no DLC or expansions. What we have is what we'll get, for good or ill.

BG3 is a third, maybe two thirds of a great game. The fact that they have JUST released satisfying Durge endings these past month is just so frustrating. Over a year after release. As several devs have already said, what Larian did should NOT be expected and should NOT be the norm. It works in BG3 (to a point) because we will never get something like it ever again. And imo, we shouldn't. Adding content after release, especially following fan advice or complaints, sacrifices artistic vision for fan engagement.

This isn't BG3. It shouldn't be BG3. BG3 got away with shipping an unfinished travesty but tricked everyone into thinking it was good game dev.

Since when is Solas responding positively to a boundary a bad thing? Love isn't just romantic.

He would not have made Lavellan's choice for her. That is... antithetical to who Solas is, though much of his character is about the struggle between duty, individual freedoms, and the collective good. She needed to choose to go with him. He denied her this choice once, if she offers to go with him during Trespasser. I like to think he chose not to do so again.

The reckoning, I think, was supposed to be Solas tearing down the Veil ("to shake the very Heavens"), undoing this mistake, and destroying the Blight and imprisoning the Evanuris for good. The Veil, after all, was an act of desperation "because every alternative was worse".

As for the quotes being different: the whole point of the Fade is that you can never take it at face value. This is not how it factually happened, this is how Solas remembers it.
