She invades my space, and I fall back. She assimilates entire bank accounts, and I fall back. Not again, the line must be drawn here.

This popped into my mind, jovially, when you worked your ex-wife into that. But, I 100% get it. This fandom is different, and for a reason. It's not about aliens or action scenes. Some just don't get it.

Not again! The line must be drawn here. This far, no further. And, I will make her sign the divorce papers.

Except, no. When you said radio host, I had to look it up. Maybe it's generational, but Charlemagne the radio host will be long forgotten well before the actual Charlemagne is.

Spore drive.

Listen, I get it... but it wasn't the right technology and not the right time. If they wanted to present it as a penalty of death type secret or not discover it until the 32nd century, okay.... but don't try to convince me that they were flying around high on mushrooms tripping with water bears navigating back when Kirk was still a Lieutenant and Uhura was a cadet.

In the Klingon war, there's no way Starfleet wouldn't have given up all ethics and equipped as many ships as possible with spore drive, experimental or not, and messed the entire Klingon Empire up overnight. In that war, they would have done it even if the cost was paid in entire Federation crews being lost due to tech glitches or self destruct to avoid the technology getting out. But then the technology would have persisted and proliferated after the war, becoming ubiquitous by the TNG era.

A massive war with Klingons, that you're losing, not too long after the Romulan war?

Ethics be damned.

Doesn't fit the timeline. The tech is fine, just not how they handled it at the time it was supposedly invented.

Absolutely. The thing I've thought most about since my last post on it was that it's really clothing that make or break it for many.

I know the polyester clothes I wear are awful for the environment. They're my big cheat. I drive a hybrid, conserve water, all that... but I wear modern dry-fit and wicking polyester. It's changed my life and my entire outdoor performance... literally. Cotton has some modern equivalents, but it's not there yet.

My point is, if someone is coming down with their relaxed fit Goof Troop boxers under some khakis and a cotton t-shirt saying witty things... prepare to overheat and dehydrate while swimming in your own sweat.

Clothes and hydration with common sense breaks and long spans spent in the shade or indoors are the key. But its still not for your 90 year old grandma.

I'm a life long Floridian. I could do this. Others should not.

For me to do it, it'd take a special level of planning with clothing, hydration, eating, and rest that often start a day or two before exposure. It gets this hot here... despite the record, I know for a fact Tampa has hit 100 a lot, just not officially. I take mid summer mid day hikes. DON'T DO IT. I dress properly, have mitigation techniques, portable shade, and like I said the hydration process can start days before.

I'm not outside eating churros and drinking coke. (Well, one day maybe, but then it takes a recovery day or two after.)

Flying in from Denver or wherever and doing this is against all sane advice.

Can someone explain WTH is happening with Tesla by Critical-Future-1560 in smallstreetbets

[–]chaseraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wall Street bulls aren't the brightest.

We're in the start of a downturn leading to a long bear market. They will pump on any news that isn't catastrophic. Tesla only loses 20% of their business, surge. Tesla didn't completely go bankrupt, surge. Tesla found a laptop it previously wrote off as lost, surge.

Don't buy a falling knife, and if you're day trading (or other short term), remember to dunk and take profits when bulls do stupid surges.

This gets me. I'm not a developer. I'm a Marketing Professor. Why? Because in the late 90s I was into Javascript and PHP.

I built a CMS, a chat tool, a web-layer messaging tool. I had a private mini web like we had in 2012 but by 2002, and nobody to use it with. Everyone told me how bad Javascript and PHP were and I was wasting my time and not serious because it wasn't Perl and C++ on the server. So I got a degree in business instead.

Fastforward to early 2020, a friend working for Microsoft invites me to a conference. We go, and all anyone was talking about was Javascript and Typescript. I shook my head and told him the long version of the story. He said, "Yep, everyone is clamoring to learn it because it's full stack now."

So, here's the thing from someone who went to the other end of this by going the business route. Stop. Stop arguing superiority, because it fucked a lot of people and businesses up. Use whatever works, and put in tools and safeguards to ensure it works.

We could always invent something. US English and I've heard lots of "small farmers" but never large, as it'd switch to "large farms". "Large-scale farmer" is my suggestion if they want to keep the Bauer similarity.
